Been using Krita for nearly three years now it's completely free, open source, and honestly worth throwing money at just to support the devs. It handles everything digital painting, pixel art, basic image editing, even animation. You just spend a few minutes setting it up to fit your workflow and you're good to go.

Need more features? It’s got plugins. Can’t find what you need? You can make it. It’s that flexible.
If you’re looking for a serious, no-strings-attached alternative to commercial digital art tools, Krita is a solid go-to.

I'm not a good artist, and I can only speak from my experience as a beginner. This program has done everything I've needed so far, and slowly over time I've learned some more tools each time I draw. you do need to put in the work to learn the program and understand what things do and why you should do them

so speaking to beginners, if you're willing to learn, Krita is more than enough to get started, and if you outgrow it you're a rock star! good luck art babies
