Grid options, Reference options: Feature Request?

So, this is what I want to do.

I have an assignment at school... more than one, where I make a grid over a reference picture, then I use the same number of squares on the blank paper for creating as close to a duplicate as I can muster by hand. Throughout the process, both pictures are displayed the entire time, as it is necessary that the reference picture is separate from the copy.

How do I do this in Krita?

Thank you for responding. Followed your directions and found that it wasn't possible to see your adjustments to the grid while making them... which is unfortunate. The other grid options are nice.

Is there a way to show an image in the upper right or another location, and use that image as a reference that is physically separate from the drawing space?
