It is free AND open source. I think you might be confusing the term "free" as in costs nothing and "free" as in released without any license conditions. OP and everyone else is talking about the cost of the application, not about the difference between open-source +
license vs. open-source + no license conditions ("free"). You clearly have missed the point of this thread and made a total ass of yourself by acting like a spoiled child.

not all open source programs are free, but most free (aka "libre software") are usually open source. for that reason, most people often associate or assume "open source = free software".

krita is like that: both free and open source.

in steam is sold to support devs, but you can easily go to their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ site to get it for free, or in git, or other sites that also offer forks (which are also free, thanks to the licensing model).

if you use windows, a useful version of krita can be found in portableapps. all of those are also "free software" or "freemium", and most are also "open source".

I think he is talking about the tar.gz file, but krita is free and opensource, just because they read articles where one guy creates something and distributes it that does not mean others know how it works, i think it is funny how other take it so personally

because if you create something opensource you can create your own ToS where people can modify it but you hold still the authenticity and can redistribute it if it was your own creation, there are many hook ups in that case
