.ico file format?

I really rather like Krita Gemini but one thing I don't get is the lacking an .ico save format. Which isn't evena unique thing to Krita either, Why is it that I never seem to find any program that saves in that format? It would make my day if krita did but at this point I'd settle for any program that did. I'd really like to use custom icons for my pc (make the desktop shortcuts match the background because I'm ****ing insane)

Just something that's kinda been bugging me. Anyone got any info on this? Other programs? any reason why so many programs don't support this file format?

I haven't had the need to make a .ico file in many years but it looks like there are quite a few options online for .png -> .ico conversion.

I know of that site and the others like it, and seen some programs that make .icos specifically but lack the kinda of drawing capabilities of other programs. I don't want to convert images through websites as I generally distrust websites. I'd rather have an drawing program that handles it natively for once.

You can now create and save ".ico" files within Krita.

On Windows 10 I just tried it and it works right out of the box. For Windows it is now built in functionality.

On linux Krita works fine for this even though it doesn't list the ".ico" format. Instead save the file as a ".bmp" (windows bitmap) file. After the file has been saved just change the file extension from .bmp to .ico and you're good to go.

This works for the transparency in the file as well. It's all good.

A little more hassle but not enough to decide to abandon Krita. That is all .ico files are really anyway. They're bitmap files with an "ico" icon extension. It looks like the same would go for some other similar file formats like ".icon" and the others listed here at https://cgit.kde.org/krita.git/commit/?id=5b8b88145afa76f336a9b47f124ad35bbf2a3762

If you're making .ico files for Windows applications this is probably your best way to go. If you are making .ico files for use on websites (e.g. for the website's favicon then you will likely get better results from using ".png" files instead.

Um... dude awesome. I didn't think to check krita for any update on this but now that you've explained it I can now go full on nutcase with theming my desktop. Thanks dude.
