Krita
how do i save my art without losing my layers?
ay back at it again with a dumb question, i just wanna know if there's a way to save your work without losing any of your layers? it's more of just trying to figure out how to not save it as a png image (i do my art by importing my sketches to krita because i'm not good with numbers and doesn't give me a preview of "paper" size for me to work with lol) i'm really hoping i can avoid this without losing all my layers and/or going through the 10th circle of hell trying to find a suitable size to work with lmao

(as always, please don't have a world war in the comments i honestly just wanna vibe)

I'll try to answer according to how I understood the question.

You mean, you do not know how to save your work for it to retain layers? You should know that some image formats store layers while most - not. So you should be careful with choosing what file format to use.

Naturally, Krita has own .kra file format that supports all the features: layers, vector layers, clone layers, effect layers and the such. Also .ora, or Open Raster, also supports layers, but not all Krita's features.

So workflow looks as follows:
- you save your work in .kra Krita's native file format, so you can easily return to your project later.
- when you need to show your work to someone or to make a final "release" - you use Export feature to save a copy into common format, .png or .jpg for example.

If you want to transform your .kra into an image without transforming that project into an image you can go into File and then click on export, you can then choose an extension and it will create a unique copy of your work.
