(Windows) Krita won’t open

i’m have version 4.2.9 Downloaded now but I’ve had this problem for a while, I tried switching to other digital art software but I just really prefer this one so I would like to have it working again. Every time I try to open it the launcher stops and closes when it gets to “loading plugins for krita/dock”. any help on getting this fixed would be great.

Maybe I messed something up again with the upload to Steam. Let me boot over to Windows and double-check. In the meantime, you can also try enabling the "rollback" beta branch by right clicking on Krita in your Steam library > click "Properties" > Betas tab > and select the "rollback" beta. It should load up a slightly older version of the program that may work better for you while I'm seeing if there are any issues that need to be fixed on my end.

Edit: I'm not having any issue running Krita on Windows through Steam. Can you also test to see if the non-Steam Krita (www.krita.org) runs for you or if you run into the same issue? (You can download and test it for free of course.)

The non steam one was the one I first had the problem with so I got the one on here and I’m having the same problem there

have you tried to "reset" krita? if not close krita, delete all content of the following folders and then restart krita.

c:\Users\%YOURUSERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Krita\
c:\Users\%YOURUSERNAME%\AppData\Local\Krita\

these folders might be hidden. if you use the standard windows file explorer mark the checkbox for "hidden items" in the "view" tab.
