3 years and change after I bought it, I've switched out the graphics card 3 times or so - and the ol' i7 is still going strong.
And I actually had an Ati 4850 (one of only two Ati cards I've ever had, I believe), and it's probably the most stable, consistent graphics card I ever had. Pretty powerful as well.
I see you've bought the game now, so this post is mostly just me reminiscing, lol. How does the game run for you?
By the way; I see you have a huge game collection - have you really only been playing on a laptop until now?
So far it hasn't been very stable for me - froze twice in Crysis when I upped it to Very High, and once in Gianna Sisters when I alt-tabbed out and launched GPU-Z.
Also Torchlight 2 has a weird issue where sometimes when I check the inventory in town the framerate drops to 1fps.
Could just the the latest ATI drivers I installed a few days ago, I dunno. Could also be heat related - temps regularly hit 90s when I'm gaming. I should probably open it up and dust it out or something, I'm definitely way too lazy to buy & install an aftermarket cooler.
Actually I've had the game since it was in an Amazon pack for $10 maybe a year ago - but I have a very slow connection (768kbit) and I'm not the only one using it so....
Only for the last 3 years since my previous desktop (C2D E8400, GTS 250) broke down and I was too lazy to fix it. Actually if the 4850 continues giving me problems, I might just sidegrade it to the 250 from the old system, that one should still work unless it burned out along with the mobo & CPU...
This i7 box I got from a coworker who decided to go full-Mac for some reason.
You're right on the money with the sidegrading comment - http://www.hwcompare.com/2126/geforce-gts-250-1gb-vs-radeon-hd-4850-512mb/
And if you want to take a crack at overclocking your cpu, this thread will help you out - http://www.overclock.net/t/538439/guide-to-overclocking-the-core-i7-920-or-930-to-4-0ghz
