[Spoilers] Hostile NPCs and the Foxiest of Hounds achievement.

Hey guys,

I'm playing through the game and I'm trying to earn the Foxiest of Hounds Achievement. My question is what exactly counts as setting off an Alarm? Specifically do NPCs as part of quests? I ask because I'm doing the side quest Cloaks and Daggers and when I got to arrest O'Malley at the end he hostiles and tries to shoot me if I refuse his bribe. Does this count against the achievement or not?

Probably not. The alarms refer to security cameras, bots and the thing that enemies put their hands on.

You can go hostile with anyone, what you really need to care are:
- Enemies hitting the alarm panel
- Getting spotted by a camera, or leaving a corpse in front of it
- Failing a hacking. Be sure to quick save and reload if you fail
- Robots and turrets dont counts, but if they start shooting, any human enemy will surely go for the alarm
There are some missions that have scripted alarm ringing at the start (Like Tai Yong Penthouse or the Detention Center in Missing Link DLC). Dont mind then, they dont nullify your achievement
Also be sure to have the Smooth Operator bonus at the end of a mission, it tells you that you didnt raise any alarm in the area (note that not all missions have this bonus, only in hostile areas, or areas that YOU can go hostile, like the Convention Center in Detroit)

Hey I have reached ( again....pff my eight time playing this ) trying to succeed this achievement in particular.Anyways I'm in the Alice Garden Pods and just noticed when I end my conversation with this Van hacker guy the tai yong soldiers get alarmed right away.Will this block me of get the achievement ?

No. That's another of the "scripted alarms" that Redgrave mentioned, above.

Thanks...in any bad situation I make several saved games in case I made a mistake.

The problem is now...I am in Montreal chapter,doing the mission Confronting Eliza Cassan and after 2 days trying to beat first part of it....I have carefuly checked if I kept getting smooth operator or ghost points to progress forward but I am bit confused now at this moment.I mean I'm in that part you need to ( Use the funicular to descend to sub-basement ), I don't get smooth operator point...I've tried waiting hiding in the corner,I've tried killing one by one of each guard was send thre but I do not earn the point of smooth operator after entering in the elevator.Before that just by getting in the room I do get ghost and smooth operator and getting things done points.

After pressing the button to call the funicular, you should get 250 SO points and 250 GTD points, provided the alarm wasn't set off. When the door opens and you enter the funicular, you should get an another 250 GTD points but, no additional SO points.

If you're not getting the SO points when you press the funicular button, then the alarm probably got set off somehow. Or, maybe the camera spotted you or a body. If you shoot out the camera, that negates the points, too.

I have sneak in disabled camera and the sentry gun by hacking that computer next to funicular elevator.But I'm going try again today checking.I also have hacked the alarm setting inside the room of the funicular...but anyway thanks for replying and I will keep trying to progress forward with this achievement.

Hey I've found this person's youtube channel and I've noticed on his video it didn't pop up the ghost or smooth operator points when it comes the elevator in the funicular room.

No, It does NOT count against you. It's a scripted scene, therefore, you can't control the fact that he becomes hotile on you.

My game is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up now...I did putt it to verify the integrity last night but didn't showed any issue..is like whoa.
I am back in detroit doing the mission of M2 - Finding Isaias Sandoval and doing the objective of Get inside Sandoval's apartment everytime Sander become alarmed when I'm climbing the ladder outside the building.....is total a mess.I've tried purchasing silent footsteps and cloak but nothings works....he keeps getting alarmed but none of the two initial guards.I can't remember having this issue when I used to play on windows xp...is this because I'm playing on windows 7 ?
What a mess....I've watched that person's youtube channel and he was fine sneaking without cloaking by crounching outside the building without none of grey icons get alarmed...so come on.....this is ridiculous.

Actually, it did. If you keep watching the video, after you press the button that calls the funicular, as Adam hides in the crawlspace under the steps, the UPDATE comes on the screen (at 2:16) and it shows ...

SUMMON THE FUNICULAR
WAIT FOR THE FUNICULAR
GETTING THINGS DONE (250)
GHOST (500)
SMOOTH OPERATOR (250)

Depending on a number of factors, the UPDATE may not pop up immediately after pressing the button, and could be delayed a little while, as in the video.

If you're talking about climbing up the ladder to the fire escape outside the building where Sandoval's apartment is, then that is odd. As long as the cops outside the building aren't alarmed, no one should hear you at all. Maybe I'm missing something here.
