Importing save games?
I have a selection of save games from another player and now HR will not read them.
Do I need to do all the moving, deleting and renaming to get the new saves visible as shown below??

Let me know if this is the proper method.

Thanks,
Bill

GRRRR lost saves.....
I hadn't played since this summer when I decided to pick it back up today only to find "new game" the only option on the menu. I re-enabled steam cloud sync (I disabled it since I've had issues with it in the past but this time that bit me in the ♥♥♥ I guess) and an old save from before I disabled cloud sync became available. I haven't had any issues with the game crashing so I don't know how the files could have been corrupted.

Anyone have any tips? I was pretty far... is the only location for the save files in the steam/users folder?

I know none of you can perform miracles but... please let someone perform a miracle! I don't want the next time I play this game to be in 30 years on a computer running on a backup generator due to nuclear war wiping out our infrastructure/games industry.

I lost mine too and I have no idea how that happened.

Cloud sync is apparently unfriendly to DXHR sadly. I cant help you, except state two things - I had savegame corruption happening. The following worked with one or two saves

(EDIT: Found this on the Eidos forums after a bit opf googling)

"Backed up all save games to a New Folder on my desktop (gamer1-gamer12, gamea, gamea2, gameq)
Right click game in Steam, Properties, Updates, uncheck enable steam Cloud (not sure if this is necessary, but steam Cloud seems to be buggy in this game anyway)
EXIT Steam (I know this is a required step, I tried everything else without exiting steam and the game would not load my imported saves)
delete all content in Steam\userdata\[number]\28050\
Open Steam back up, start a New Game, skip intro movie, press escape and make a hard save as soon as you spawn in Megan's office.
Exit Game, exit Steam again (mandatory)
Take one game file (this didn't work with multiple save files, only one at a time), in my case gamer12 was the most recent, rename to gamer1, copy over and overwrite the gamer1 from your new game
Start game, Load the first and only save file. It will say Sarif Industries but when you actually load it, it will be correct.
Make a few extra hard saves of your resurrected save file, make a quick save, make a hard save over the save that still says Sarif Industries"

HOWEVER

I found that by launching through the steam library (rather tha dekstop), i no longer had the problem. Hopefully at least its of use to someone!

are you kidding me Cyrus? I can't describe how annoyed I am after only two sentences into your "fix". There is no way in hell i'm going through that, Valve ought to refund me my money on this game if THAT is the fix to steam dumping your game saves. That is utterly ridiculous. Props to you for making that work but this is unacceptable. Now that I'm seeing that this wasn't some fluke problem, that alot of other people are having this problem and Steam doesn't look like it gives two s****, i'm never using this service again. This is completely an utterly unacceptable. A game that Vavle didn't even make is basically BROKEN by this service, how on earth is that acceptable business? I jsut got set back a couple chapters in the game and if this is going to happen regularly the game is broken for me.

Know what you mean. I restarted (having only played about two hours) and got much further - then the same thing again!
Thing is, according to the update history, this problem is FIXED!?!
And theres NOTHING of use officially from Eidos / Square either.
This is what has always put e off steam / netservice gaming as there are few workarounds for problems at all, and without a physical copy, you have little entilement or rights. Hopefully some new EU laws I heard were proposed WILL come into effect and right the situation (essentially making games companies and distibuters responsible like they would be if it were a car or other technological product) but I don't know if it's a reliable report or if it'll go through.

a year delayed but I just had the same issue. my pc decided to die tonight and crash whilst saving. steam cloud sync did not happen but all the save files are saved in this folder cyrus has mentioned. I think spending the few minutes to do the backup and restore process will save you the hours of effort going through these levels again... which in my case is about 4 hours... thanks for the tip.

PLUS I would like to say there is probably even an easier way to do this. It is an obvious issue with writing the data onto the saveindex file located in this directory. Copy your latest "gamerxx" file into a separate directory.
Delete all the files in this folder as suggested above (don't worry about the backup this is a waste of time).
Start up steam and you will notice it will automatically recreate these files in the folder. Start up the game and skip intro blah blah and then save at the first scene. Do a proper save not quick save. Close the game and then steam. Copy back your old save and rename it as the new one, which would be gamer1. When you restart the game, you will have the save game data replaced in your first save, thus your last save game.

But seriously, don't worry about the game backup, just turn off that dumbass cloud storage BS and keep the files local, at the end of the day, DX is saving them locally as well.

Hope this helps, and again apologies for the year delay !!

Okay I was also able to get this to work albeit 1 game at a time. If you need more details let me know. Always back up your save games to another folder.

It doesn't work at all. I disabled the steam cloud, deleted everything in the folder, restarted the steam twice as indicated, made a new game save, etc...still can see all my old saves and none of the ones I have imported.
If I understood it right. And I have to still test around. You need to have an existing save file with the same name. So if you import save file GAMER56_4 or how they are called but there were no save file with that number it won't be displayed.
If you e.g. copy in a save file from e.g. the 3 boss fight and let it take the name space of one that was created in the d-row it should work but still ist displayed as D-row. So best practice should be to load it and then overwrite it so it is also displayed right. Copying save Files in deus ex hr can be quite daunting...
