Just wanted to play Deus Ex, after waiting for another of your useless updates I found out you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lost all of my save-games....again. I hate you and wish you all the worst things in the world. You are nothing but a useless ♥♥♥♥♥ and I have nothing from your stupid Steam except problems, delays and offers I never asked for. My words cannot express my anger since I never wanted this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ waste of time and harddrive space. You have only gave me problems, loved this game and now I hate every publisher that makes me stuck with you idiots just for buying a game. The game doesn't need Steam to run, and so do I. I kinda have to agree, on some points. Steam is primarily a marketing platform that has captured game producers as well as game players. You have to admit, though...business-wise, it's a brilliant ploy. My first experience with Steam was when I bought Half-Life 2: The Orange Box (very fine print on the side of the box read,"Steam Powered"). I resisted the Steam system for a while, by playing offline, until I bought Dues EX:HR. Since then, I've gradually become accustomed to it but, I use their features only as I want them (forums now included but little else). I still feel a little aggravated by the pop-up advertising windows. Plus the claim that Steam is showing me games based on what I like, is an insult to my intelligence but, it is what it is and I can't do much about it so, I have to accept the Steam-roller. They have us by the hammers. I've learned to embrace what I like and dismiss what I don't. Simple as that.

I suppose that was MY rant, albeit not as passionate as the OP but, still sympathetic.

I can't see that evil behind Steam, really.
It's a store, a social platform and an absolutely un intrusive drm system (ever struggled with Gwfl or Origin?) it have big discount every week, a huge selection of titles to applease everyone, indie titles, Greenlight so everyone with a project can reach the world, you can play the last release (and if you're lucky with a discount) and games of decades ago, free complete games for an entire week end, Free to Play of every genere, demo, dlc, videos, mods, news and much more.
Really, where's the problem?

The following is not aimed at any of you. I bought the product - I expected service.

I have never suddenly lost all my saved games in any other game or on any other platform in over 40 years of game play, then had no one taking responsibility for their product. I can't even play my game now because it won't keep saved game data. Every time I start the game through STEAM, my saved game is gone. And all I get for help is ...look through our rat's nest, I mean knowledge base. Why? Do you look through a knowledge base when your new car won't run? Or if your new TV doesn't work? NONSENSE. You take it back to where you bought it. That doesn't work here.

What was wrong with the old system? I liked buying a game, installing it on my computer, and enjoying countless hours of fun - by myself. I didn't need an entire community to play a single player game. But gaming has changed and not for the better. I liked playing offline - just me and MY game. Now the game belongs to STEAM? I don't even own that which I bought and paid for? I don't like STEAM and I never asked for it when I bought my game. I will not be returning and I'm quite sure no one will even care.

The first and only time I asked for help with an issue here and I was basically told to go somewhere else. In the old days if you purchased a product, you had all kinds of help available - people who stood by their products. Telephone numbers, people who answered the phone. Things sure have changed. Here I have to sift through a rat's nest of other people's problems in an attempt to solve a problem which should never have happened and which the makers of the game SHOULD be helping with. But they are too busy taking other unsuspecting gamer's money hand over fist to bother actually giving a hoot about the customers they're supposed to be serving.

I have just wasted 3 weeks playing DEUS EX HUMAN REVOLUTION. All my hours of playing were lost when STEAM updated and verified itself for the millionth time...how many updates and verifications do you need in order to see that my game is legal and that I did pay good money for it? I can't be bothered to keep going through all the nonsense that passes for DEUS EX or its help these days. DEUS EX was a great game, but now you've gone and turned it into all the other games. I will go back and play the original DEUS EX game and I shall never return to this place. I will also NEVER buy another product that forces me to join a community I have NO interest in joining.

I give up.

You've never ever own the game, you always bought the license, the game it's proprety of the devs, you own no rights over a software.

Steam it's just a gaming platform and a game store, they don't own nothing to no one concerning technical issues with specific games, that goes to dev's pages, forum or troubleshooting.
You can find help here, but usually a Google or the game forum it's strogly advides.

Steam can quitely work offline, just set in the Steam/offline, so you won't be bothered with community or any online feature.

The save files are usually stored online via Cloud (if you have selected it, and they won't wipe out, just check again game cache and they should come back) and locally into Steam/userdata, check there.

Just some clarifications.

And good luck with unplugging from Steam and any community, as 98% of the games out there need Steam, or any other online verification system.

Or you can buy Popcap games or objects find games that can still be buyied on offline cd.

First of all - it was a rant. I was and am angry because I am forced to use Steam. If I could install the game on my PC and play it offline without Steam, then I would in a heartbeat. In all fairness, I'm new here and my game doesn't work correctly. Oh, and my social skills aren't great either. And I'm old.

Yeah, I am the owner of all my games, except this game. You're talking about legal software ownership stuff. I'm talking about the good old days, when you went and physically bought a game and plugged it into your game system and it worked. I have hundreds of Super Nintendo games - all mine and they all work.

I know Steam is just a game platform. An unnecessary platform for single player games. But I can't play my game without it. And when it doesn't work correctly, who do I turn to? If they don't want me to have to go through them to help solve my game problems, then they shouldn't force me to use their platform in order to play MY games. This is obviously a Steam issue. If it were a game issue, everyone would be experiencing it. So when Steam ignores my problem because they don't make the game, and the game makers ignore my problem because it's obviously not a game issue, where do I turn in order to be able to play the game I purchased but don't own? I am forced to turn to the game community to try to solve a Steam issue.

Steam does not quietly work offline. Did you read my post? I lose my saved game EVERY time I shut down my PC. It all started with STEAM updating itself. Everything worked fine for 3 weeks before that.

What is cloud and why should I have to deal with it? I don't even own a cell phone. I have a perfectly good computer for saving my games on. I don't even know how to check in this cloud you mentioned. I haven't a clue what you're talking about with game cache and userdata. Does one have to be a Computer Guru to play a computer game these days?

And there's my point. What is the point of Steam? To verify that I paid for my game? Over and over and over? I will unplug from Steam and play my other games until they die from old age or I do. I refuse to be bullied into using a system designed only to sell me things I don't want.
