No real reason why this wouldn't work in 3D unless you don't have an nvidia card. Some games were scripted to run in 3D out of the box regardless of GPU manufacturer. No experience with the R9 290 but there is 3D support for the director's cut and it's automatically detected in 3D Fix Manager. There is 3D support for a good number of games now, but on a plasma you'll be locked to 60Hz regardless of what tricks the tv uses to show 120Hz. 120Hz is only for 3D monitors. You may have more luck using Tri-def drivers which can be found freely on the nvidia 3D vision discord, supposedly they can run games in 3D beyond the limitations of nvidia 3D TV Play (720p/60Hz or 1080p/24Hz) but there aren't as many game profiles.
The discord for Nvidia 3D Vision is: https://discord.gg/tXHYhNK
The link for the game in 3D over at helix mod (nvidia video card) is: http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2016/08/deus-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut.html
Once they figure out the iZ3D driver and how it engages 3D, using an AMD GPU seems like it should be less of an issue but that is likely a few years away.
