Salvaging

Uh . . . can anyone explain salvaging to me?

I click on the forge and it opens up this UI. I clicked on 5 of my common items (just for the heck of it) and the leftmost basket goes from 0 to 5, indicating that the items were dropped there. After that what do I do?

First, you need to click on the smelter to salvage items. It's the far right black thing with a fire in it. Then, after you've salvaged items of varying degrees, you can craft items with the appropriate color powder you have.

Gray and green items are good for raising the smith's level. Once you've moved to a new level, you get access to more stuff. You can also add gems to your weapons/armor/jewelry that you make. Hope this helps and sorry it was late!
