Steam Sync not working?
I've logged a few hours into this game on my Windows machine, and decided I wanted to play it while I was out with my Linux laptop. It looks like there is roughly 600KB of info currently synced, which sounded about right, but my Linux copy is not seeing that saved game.

I'd really like to play this in multiple locations, so I'd love to see this fixed. If anybody has a work-around, I'm open to try various things.

You won't see saved games. That part isn't synced. Now that you mention it, that might be a problem. The issue is quite complex though. Steam has a limited amount of Cloud space per game, and CW doesn't "clean up" save games, so you could exhaust it and the sync process may take longer the more you play - all to keep syncing useless saves. So what the game sync is just game progress and status. THings that are unloced, etc.

Maybe Virgil can put his thinking cap on and come up with a solution. :)

Right now, I would be totally fine with just progress & status... but that's not working for me either. When I load up the game on my laptop, it's like I'm starting from scratch on the campaign... it even started playing the intro story.

I take it from your comment that I shouldn't have experienced that? I'm really afraid that when I get home, my desktop save is going to be trashed.

I'm wondering if this is an issue of Steam sync not understanding the different locations of the files on Linux vs Windows. It may be syncing the stuff, but inplaces that is of no use to the game on that platform?

Hum... I think I have the same problem. My progression stopped to be synced between my Mac and my PC desktop. By the way CWIII is unable to quit properly on my Mac, maybe it's the cause of this trouble.

Reven, I don't think that's my issue, as the game quits properly for me in Windows and Linux.

It looks like this save info is stored in Windows at C:\Users\[User]\Documents\creeperworld3. Is this correct? Do you know where it should be stored at in Linux? I can try to do some testing on my end, or at the very least, sync the files manually.

On linux my progress is not synced too, but it quit as expected. I saw my Steam client do some syncing...

Yes, your save path is correct, and it's similar on my Linux ´$HOME/Documents/creeperworld3´.

I have the same problem with pc and mac. Progress does not sync over.
But i know this problem from other games, so creeper world is not the only one having this issue.

It would be awesome if this can be fixed. Otherwise i will have to use the old save-on-usb-stick-trick.

The steam cloud sync doesn't work across different platforms (like linux and windows)... not without me switching to a manual model for managing the sync. They have a couple options for cloud integration and I used to one that I thought would be easiest and most reliable. I let steam just look for modified files that match an extension filter (*.dat) and I let them handle the syncing and when they are dirty, etc. But, that system has a limitation in that it doesn't work across platforms. It is possible they might add that as a feature in the future, but I have no idea. An alternate model would be for me (within the game code) to use cloud APIs and to sync and load the dat files. If I did that, I could make it work across platforms. But that's mor involved and potentially more error prone...

OK, thanks for this detailled clarification :) It's what I started to think, no cross save :p

Can we manually transfert the saves (or just the progression) ?
I don't know if the file format is the same between the different builds...

Yes, you can manually move the Documents/creeperworld3 dir between platforms (or just move some subsdirs). They are exactly the same format.

Yes, thanks for the detailed post, dev. While sad, I do understand the reasons, and will hope that Valve gets their act toegher a bit on this. There really isn't a reason I can think of why they can't implement this in a way that people would actually expect.

Second, and off-topic, contrats on making this game in what appears to be Unity. I'm really impressed you managed to get that engine to do this at a decent performance.

I also noticed what ReVen noticed. That Mac version does not quit.

Knuckle Cracker, thank you for your helpful answer and for the amazing release. You did incredible job to make it available on Linux. It would be great if you will be able do resolve cross platform sync issue.

have same problem in 2k18 :(
Loaded on laptop with linux, and game says tat I have to complete first 5 levels in singleplayer, to play community maps, that's so sad.

I do not care for saved games (for now)

@knucracker perhaps you can use Steam API to sync campaign progression? :( :rshocked::cgpout:
