X2: The Threat

X2: The Threat

Resolution Issues
I'm using a Dell 1920x1080 monitor. Not hugely fancy but it gets the job done...usually.

Once I got them to run at all, I was able to get XBTF and XTension to run well using the windowed 1280x1024 resolution. Obviously it didn't fit the whole screen but it worked well enough with no stretching.

However, with X2, I don't have that option under windowed resolutions. The highest vertical size under Windowed is 1280x960, which obviously leaves a big gap at the bottom but also, bizarrely, cuts off some of the top. All of the other windowed options are significantly smaller.

Of course, back in full screen mode, 1920x1080 works, but looks awful because it's stretched.

Does anyone else have more windowed options? 1280x1024 would be nice?

Oh, and I've tried the compatibility fix from Egosoft. I didn't expect it to help here and it didn't. I'm also running it as administrator, and I've tried compatibility mode with Vista, but nothing changed.

In the initial Settings screen I would choose 1280*1024 which should not be stretching too much. (its 1:1,25 instead of 1:1,33)

Set your craphics cards "gpu scaling" to "keep ratio" mode. (or use your monitors option in "keep ratio" mode, if it has it.
(I usually prefer GPU scaling instead of monitor scaling)

My setup is 2560 * 1440 and I use 1600*1200 with gpu scaling to just have borders left and right but not at top and bottom (picture quality is still nice)

Thank you for trying but I already mentioned that there's no option for 1280*1024. That's what I used on X-Tension and X:BTF but it's not there in X2.

try switching to "full screen" - in window mode the resolution is not available on my setup too, but on full screen there is.

Or do you need the window mode for some reason?
It works okay in full screen mode at that resolution but the stretching is horrible. That's what I ended up doing, though, for lack of a better option.

I track game things on Excel so windowed mode works a lot better for me with X games.

oh, yes - ok.
So if Fullscreen on a 4:3 (or 5:4) Resolution like 1260 * 1024 does not give you borders on the left and right, you may try to find the scaling setting on your monitor (set to stretch but keep ratio)

Otherwise your graphics driver may stretch automatically to fit the screen.
But there is a setting (keep ratio) too, wich gives you borders on the left and right. if you have an AMD graphics card I may have a look in my driver and guide you to the setting, if you dont find it.
(Yes, stretched circles are looking horrible)

Quickly switching to the desktop / other screen to track some game details is a bit more uncomfortable in Full screen, that is right - but task switch works OK (does not produce any errors or game crashes)

I use consistent naming for all my ships, so if one gets destroyed I know what I have to replace without having to look through all my stations where something is missing) ;)
No worries. I do use a Radeon 5700 XT and I remember having that option via driver settings for X-Tension. It struck me as pointless then because I had the option of having the far right and far left sides where I could see lists I'd made.

I appreciate the help but I've already moved on to playing something else. I put about 400 hours into the X games all in one go so I kinda burned out hard.
