Half-Life: Source

Whats the difference of HL:Source and Black Mesa,,,
I thought the point to the Black Mesa project was to re release HL with the source engine.

Hasnt Valve already done this with HL Source?

Doesnt that pretty much nullify the Black Mesa Project? Or is there something major in Black Mesa i dont know about?

Half life source simply ports half life to the sorce engine without many visual improvements. Black Mesa is a complete remake of Half life with modern graphics and expanded levels.

Very nice, cool, thanks for the reply.

Black mesa:source is just a graphics upgrade for hl:s so there both the same thing
Hero4Zero 7/set./2012 às 5:25
No..no its not, Black Mesa is a re-imagining of Half-Life.

Black Mesa is a Modern retake on HL, with updated graphics, new voices, new music, expanded level design with memorable set pieces intact around the new level layouts, and a load of sweat and tears.

Black Mesa was supposed to be a proper remake, instead of a lazy port. It would have modern graphics and voice acting, instead of content from 1998.
Instead, they spent 8 years in development and still only finished half the game, so we're still stuck with graphics nearly a decade old, and somehow, the VA is actually a step down from the original. Black Mesa reminds me of nothing so much as Duke Nukem Forever.

For the game being free, there certainly are a lot of people pissing and moaning about it. Judge it after you play it. I suggest you check out the BlackMesa youtube channel, and forums to form your own opinion on the project instead of letting some of these people ruin the experience for you with their ignorantly negative criticism.

Haha , McGoo, thanks for the input. Also , thats my little boys nickname, McGoo .. haha.

Yep, HL Source was just Half Life with the Source Engine. The only improvement was on water and skyboxes, as far as I know.

There's quite a difference alright.

Half-Life Source is a literal "remake" (a port) of the original game in the Source engine. It's just like the original game, but adds such as clear water, new lighting and shading, new Source engine physics, etc. If you like Half-Life then you'll also like Half-Life Source. It's a great way to (re-)play the excellent Classic game that everyone loves.

Black Mesa is a bit different, though. It's a redux, a re-imagined remake of Half-Life much in the same way that Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Doom³, and Tomb Raider: Anniversary are re-imagined remakes of Wolfenstein 3-D, Doom, and Tomb Raider, respectively, see?

I can hardly wait for (the first half of) Black Mesa to be released, as I am sooo gonna play that! :)) hehehehe

In summary: If you love Half-Life (and what real gamer doesn't), then just get both, man. It might be that you'd then have so much Half-Life as if coming out of your ears, but what could be wrong with that? What, that would be a bad thing? ???

And yes, as another poster mentioned off-the-cuff: I too would love to finally see a Half-Life: Blue Shift Source and a Half-Life: Opposing Force Source also, as I've been asking for both of those for some time now! hehehehe

Black mesa source is a sound and graphics remake of HL:S. There probably bits I have left but eh.
JoannaDark 8/set./2012 às 22:58
Haha , nice, those are both great too. Meh , the whole damn half life series was just freaking awsome.

BTW, Blue Shift and Op. Force remakes are in the works. They're on ModDB somewhere.
Yeah, those are gonna be good, I bet. I wanna play those too hehehe

But those are gonna be like Black Mesa--graphical & audial remakes of the two Half-Life expansions. However I, myself, would also love to see a straight port of them into the Source engine just like Half-Life Source is a straight port of Half-Life.

But, damn, they still haven't made those yet! I mean I would totally buy them if they made them. Jeez, I sure did buy Half-Life Source, didn't I! I dunno what the problem is there hehehehehe

I've finished Black Mesa. Aside from an abbreviated Surface Tension, and the lack of Xen of course, it's quite up to par with Half-Life, and it is mostly the same game, but with all the graphical splendor of modern gaming. They took a few creative liberties, but almost all of them are appropriate expansions of the real game. A level might be slightly larger, have a new room, or they might place enemies a bit differently (the houndeye in particular, which may have the best model and animation in the game of any of the enemies, is placed far more liberally than it ever was in Half-Life, and it deserves to be a more frequent enemy to boot). Some of the nostalgia is lost by chaning the music and the voices, but the substitutes are just as appropriate as the originals, and now the models for all the scientists and guards are remixed so you don't see the same model again and again. Oh,and now women exist in Black Mesa.

All around, a crime that this mod is free. Duke Nukem Forever, it is not. I was skeptical this game would ever come out, but my faith is renewed, and I look forward to the completion of this mod.
