Engine Error: Unable to load prop file

Today i started the game and it tryed to update the client.
Took very long .
After the update was done it won't start anymore:

Engine Error:
Unable to load surface prop file "scripts/surfaceproperties.txt" (referenced by manifest file "scripts/surfaceproperties_manifest.txt")

I erased the local files and redownloaded them.still the same error.

hl source is screwed up, it has been for several days now. Valve really screwed up this time with it. hopefully they can get it fixed sometime this week.

i tryed with and without the beta fix..
both crash the client.

i fixed it.
I bought half life 2 some days ago.
At the same second where half life 2 was in my list.
Half Life Source startet to Update .
After that was done it worked !

valve actually finally fixed thet game

I have the same problem. But it isn't fixed until now.

you have half life 2 ?
At the same second where i clicked "pay" on the button and it added hl2 into my gamelist .
hls started to update ~1.9 gb .
after that hls was working well.

I dont have hl2 , and i dont want to buy it only to play HL:S :(

you don't have to, valve fixed the game finally.

It was a coincedence, that is the same time that valve fixed the game.

I still have the prop file error , i reinstalled HL:S and deathmatch on beta/no beta version like 4 times each , check game cache etc... nothing works , always that message

The game keeps crashing to desktop. Maybe we may play it next week next month next year whatsoever...

that is a completely different problem than the one that has been preventing people from playing for the last couple weeks. don't know the answer to that issue, sorry
