Killing the nihilanth
Cannot kill this guy. Have already destroyed the crystals, blasted him so that the orange balls are gone and his head is opening. Main problem is that, even though I've gone through all the teleport areas, he still keeps shooting the green balls at me. I know HOW to kill him- get above him and shoot the brain or get inside his skull- but i cant do it when im beign teleported every twnety seconds.

Killed everything in the last room- two ugly fish, the eletric cyclops, and Shrek with leprosy- so Im out of ideas.

Assistance would be appreciated. Went at it for two hours, and its jsut impossible with the green balls.

Using the HiveHand you can make the teleporter orbs disappear, they will teleport the proyectiles instead of you.

Ive already tried doing that. They ignore the projecticles and get to me anyway. Explosives also fail.

Also tried jsut jumping into his head. The screen goes white so I cannot aim, then he teleports me. He also does not bleed when I shoot him, or take damage when I put a grenade in his head. Im at the point of contacting Valve to see if there's a glitch.

no i had this same problem too but it really is just a time consuming task. it took me about an hour to finally kill him once and even then i died via falling damage. i recommend using the long jump boost on the jump panels, or whatever they are called, to shoot nonstop at his head. also i think the crossbow does wonders

Same here, I've done all of that, killed the orbs ... I land in his head shoot all I have directly at his brain and hit it whit the crowbar for and hour. He just won't die !!! :(

it takes a while, my advice is just to keep using the jump things with your super jump module and if you run out of ammo, look in the water in the final room he sends you to. beware of the water monster

Got him. I used the second atomic thing the one like the weapons in ghostbusters, and then landed in his head and finished him with the crowbar. It took literally one minute after I tried a new weapon.

Honestly, I don't know why any of the strategies like shooting the hive arm to disrupt the teleport orbs worked. Maybe the Source version is different? I don't know. Great game, probably could have had a better final boss.

the final boss is gman! nihilanth is a lie! but in all seriousness i agree, maybe thats why they send you to the rooms, to make up for his weakness?

It does seem like a cheap way to extend the fight/increase difficulty without, ya know, making a really well designed boss. If he didn't do that, than once you found the right weapon he'd go down really freaking quick.

i used my crossbow and rocket launcher on him and the crystals. fairly easy, i just had trouble with the jump pads. but i agree wonka

Ok Ok heres my reply, stay behind a big pillar and shoot and cover from behind the pillar. The green orb will hot the pillar and go down a bit but it won thit you if your fully behind that pillar, also he shoots those white orb volley at you which can kill you in 3 hits so STAY BEHIND A PILLAR, and shoot every bullet, laser and arrow you have at him.

Knew that atrategy already. Didn't work. I posted a query because very strategy I could find online failed.

I just finished the Source version just now, and you don't have to get above him, or go to any of the teleport rooms either. I just stayed hidden behind one of the pillars the whole time, although you have to occasionally kill an enemy because when the green orbs hit the pillar they convert to an Alien Slave or an Alien Controller. Hide behind one of the pillars, take out the 3 orange crystals first with the cross-bow (alt fire zooms). Then shoot the top of his head with the Hive-hand until the top of his head opens up. Then keep shooting the top of his head with the alt fire of the hive hand (which is explosive). I was aiming for a gap where his head was open, and moving the aim around a little bit continually to vary where my shots were landing. About 4 or 5 times after his head was open I heard a different pain sound. Then I finished him with a couple of cross-bow alt-fires ie zoomed (again to the gap where his head was open), which finally killed him (blue lightning appears).
This game is incredibly frustrating, it really hasn't aged well compared to when I originally played it 20 years ago.

I was VERY frustrated at this portion of the game. I kept firing away at his head, would expend all of my ammo/weapons and then get killed. II did not know there was still a crystal on the wall BEHIND ME. Once I restarted the level and took out ALL 3 of the crystals (takes 3 or 4 shots with the crossbow per crystal) THEN after a few rocket launcher shots to the head his head opened up. Then it was an easy matter of shooting him in the head with anything and he died after a very short time. I kept thinking I needed to use the jump pads to get above him to shoot his head. I was wrong. After the 3 crystals are destryoed just hide behind the pillar spikey things and keep pecking away at his head. DO NOT let the white electric balls he fires hit you or you will die instantly. I would hide behind a spikey pillar thing wait untill a green orb hits the spikey pillar thing then get off 5 quick shots to his head with the crossbow. OR you can take 1 shot with the rocket launcher and duck for cover. Once his head opens up it is easy. Overall a very un-climactic ending to an ojherwise very fun game to play. Sure the sceens with seemingly endless jumping and ballancing are like tourture and do not ad anything to the story. But overall definetly worth playing.
