Yeah I know about that, and my friend told me to do the same thing, but I really wanted to play old school Half Life D: but until it's fixed (if ever), that's my only solution.
See if you can hurt it like that. If not, you have to option of pressing on without taking it down. You should be able to run across the bridge, or jump into the water, just after it has made a pass.
Failing that, you could use cheats to take it down more easily. To use cheats, use these commands in console:
sv_cheats 1: this has to be set before you can use cheats.
noclip: this will make you able to fly and pass through walls, which should make it easier to get up close, and try to hit it on its bottom where it can be hurt.
god: use this to stay invulnerable while you take it down.
notarget: you can also use this instead of god, as it will make you invisible to all enemies.
Save right before you pick up the launcher, or immediately after.
Run outside the cave to the right on the edge to watch it come in, it will pitch back exposing it's underside, only fire the rocket as it starts to pitch. Immediately run back into the cave to lose agro, but step back out as it's passing the cave entrance and line up your second shot. You have to do it quickly, but the second shot will stun it for long enough to fire the third killing shot. This will leave you with one rocket left!
After finding this thread and seeing that the hitbox is the BOTTOM of the helo, all it took was like six or seven minutes of trial and error to bring it down without missing or taking damage.
If you miss a shot, just yeet yourself off the cliff for a quick reset.
Good luck, Dr. Freeman.
