Stuck in the story, what do I do (Possible chapter 5 spoilers)?

This is my first time playing through Half-Life, I'm at the point in the chapter "We have Hostiles" where you escape to the surface, I killed the guys, the helicopter is flying around, and, now what?

I found another way down that just took to me to the vents, but, then the whole game bugged out (Lifts refused to work), I even went into noclip mode and found nothing to do on the surface, what's the point of it?

You're supposed to shoot the helicopter when it's ''delivering'' soldiers. Repeat this until it explodes. (You will see a life-bar when you attack it)

Oh. Thanks. I'm used to games where you're just meant to ignore those things, I didn't even think to attack it.

EDIT:- No, I don't seem to be able to shoot it down, even in godmode.

Well, apparently I'm an idiot, I missed a huge "Silo Access" button. Nothing to do with the helicopter.

Wait what?! I've only played the Svenn co-op mod recently, so I thought you had to attack the helicopter in the original as well. Strange.

i got stuck in the part with the vents, i was backtracking and i got stuck between a stack of crates and a glitched lift.

The V-22 Osprey is categorized as a helicopter.

Also, you dont need to destroy it. Just run away from it, the story is about Freeman just discovered the military are against him so he is forced to return from the surface away from the military until the scientist tells him to go to the Lambda labs.

In half life if you destroy it (I did it with cheats since ammo is scarce, you cant go back to pickup more and the soldiers are dropped on the other side of the fence so you cant take their ammo), the helicopter will still appear on the next "map" (after the loading) where it drops more soldiers down the vents.

You are compleatly wrong it is not an helicopter it is a "tiltrotor military aircraft" and like the harrier it can do VTOL, but it is not an helicopter it is not a plane it has is own category and combine both concepts, but its more plane than a helicopter since it use fixed-wing, and it never fly long distance in helicopter configuration.

Please do not explain me the plot. I already played this game thousands of times, and I don't need cheats to destroy the Ospray-22; and the second Ospray, could be considered like a second different one, without any problem, since the Apache dosen't appear in any map along the tenssion surface chapter, if you destroy it in any of those maps.
