How to change FOV?

so recently Ive discovered how to change the fov in games like half life 2, tf2 and even the old goldsrc games but for some reason i cant change it in half life source, i have sv_cheats on 1 and i know the command is viewmodel_fov <number> but i still doesnt work, plz halp

fov_desired seems to work better. also it's in the graphics menu. i was playing around in the console and i dont think you can change it past 75-90.
