Half-Life: Source
...did anyone try those 2 extra builds (previous and beta)?
The picture says it all (where to find'em):

*edit*

It seems that beta build is the best choice of playing the game so far.

To be sure that all beta files are up-to-date before running the game,
just check integrity of game files:

...switching to the beta build fixes the bug with AI continuously screaming:

...I'll test it more later.

...beta build also fixes the weapons' skin glitch.

In respect to beta testing I would:

1.Make sure that: "Always keep this game up to date" is this selected under "Properties/ Updates/ Automatic updates"

2. As New Beta updates become available...Apply them through the Beta tab in properties.

3. Yes, in the steam environment an Integrity Check is the perfect way to compare game files installed on your system with those of the latest version on the steam servers. If your system files are different in any way, Files are added or subtracted.

That said I would run it at least once a day.

The most important thing when testing is keeping your Files up to Date

The Statements I've made are based on my experience working in Software Development as a Quality Assurance Tech.
...makes sense, but have you any experience with the steam platform and it's verification system?

I just don't wanna make people deleting and downloading the same files again and again while it's potentially not required...

I prefer to make things easier for people, and some of'em have net limitations and they're watching their bandwidth - that's why I want to be sure that your statement is valid.

I was a part of the big CS:S beta testing at some time and I've never heard we had to delete everything and re-download to make a proper test, and I think they would mention it while it's in their bargain.

Read my quote below and tell me why the game files' integrity check is not enough to gather all of the latest files for the certain build please?

...When you switch the builds you can see that the game's downloading some files for each time, and I see some files changed on my HDD (mainly *.dlls):

Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\bin\
Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl1\bin\
Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\bin\

Thank you for the opinion, it has inspired me to include a note about integrity checking, each time before playing the game, to the 1st post.

Now when I think about it, hl source has a very similar source engine built to the early beta of hl2

Source engine is just a modified goldsrc engine, which is a modified quake engine from 1996.

Yup

Nice 22 year old code
If it aint broke don't fix it

Good credo...

...but source engine is the worst game engine existing - it's a total code-mess, burdening the processor mainly (which is a bottleneck), not GPU (as it should, while it's always more powerful than CPU), maybe because it's all about profit, and corporations usually do everything with the least amount of work, to gain their profit even more.

Read about UDK (unreal engine), or cryEngine, see comparisons and the results - then you'll see what's broken... (^̮^)

Uses the same engine version as HL2

I've been modding GoldSrc, Source, CryEngine and Unreal Engine(s) longer than your account has existed

My steam account says nothing, but your knowledge is very low, so I don't believe any of your weak lies.

Actually, source is VERY optimized if it can run on old 2004 pc's. Tf2 is just a spaghetti mess of code

If you really wanna know the truth, you should read what one of the former valve employees says about it:

https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/92jqsu/former_valve_employee_about_source_1_engine/

TF2 also uses the source engine, and HL:S is the only 'source engine game' that can run smoothly on 2004's PCs, because it's not a full port.

After orangebox update, even CS:S (also made in 2004) started to lag on my machine, even with low details and dxlevel 80.
