The I of the Dragon

I got it working
I've had the Direct 3D issue and the Access Violation errors and I've got them fixed.
I'm running Windows 10 64bit

If you have the Direct 3D error and it crashes at launch, it seems to be something to do with the intro video and or the starting resolution. Some monitors/ graphics card combos just won't bother dealing with the default low graphics mode in full screen. Dropping it to windowed mode and disabling the intro video will get you over that hurdle. (through regedit, I'll edit this later and add the full instructions later. it's late tonight. If you want it sooner, someone made a guide about editing the graphics qualities through regedit, I highly recommend their suggestions. I'ts almost a whole new game.)

EDIT: Thanks to Wojtek858 for finding where the resolution is stored. In regedit navigate to, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Graphics
there are two values "ScreenHeight" and "ScreenWidth", Change these to your native resolution.
If there are still problems, under the same registry location there is also Windowed, toggle that to 1 to play in a window and 0 for full screen.

As for disabling the intro video, either delete it from */steam/steamapps/common/The I of the Dragon/Data/Video/(Your Language)/ or navigate in regedit to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Show and toggle Video to 0.

As for the Access Violation error, it seems to be a multithreading issue. Thanks go to the person in the forums who figured that out. Once it is running and you have it on the main menu, Alt+Tab out and launch your Task manager. Find I of the Dragon and right click to bring up a little menu. Click on "Go to Details" (Windows 8/10.) it should bring you to another tab with the I of the Dragon highlighted. Right click on that one and select "Set Affinity" Unselect all but one of the cores (usually 0).

If all else fails, Try running it in Windows Vista compatibility mode and as an admin (I was doing that but I don't think that it did anything significant)

I'll look elsewhere to see if I can find better directions for limiting your program to one core only. Till then.

Thanks for the idea, I opned REGEDIT, found
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Graphics
and changed 800x600 resolution to my native 1366x768
after that game started, intro played and everything seems to be working

running the game on one core doesn't fix the access violation problem here :steamsad: (Windows 10 x64 - also tried compatibility mode and stuff)

Well shoot... I'll see what else I can come up with to try:caster_wink:. When does it give you the access violation? What are you doing right before it happens? For me it was giving me the error as I was leveling up in mediterano. I ended up disabling autolevel save as well and that may have done it. that would be under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Primal\Dragon\Debug
Just toggle "AutosaveLevel" to 0 and see if that works.

I know for me after I got past the point that was causing the errors I reenabled auto saves and stopped worrying about disabling cores and the errors seemed to go away. I actually just finished my first play through yesterday.

my game crashes when trying to change the region. Thats why i'm stuck in Mediterrano :nonplussed_creep: (i think it also crashed when opening the menu after playing a bit)

I have a retail copy of the game and I also have this 'error violation' problem. Running it on one core, as administrator, and xp compatibility doesn't help. It also occurs when I'm quicksaving.

Crashes at pressing escape as well as destroying the first nest after starting a game. Single core, compatibility mode and run as admin not changing anything

Windowed seemed to do the trick for me. Thanks Vasniltere.
I did not do affinity.

Disabling the Level Up Autosave eliminated the Level Up Crash fore me, Compatibility Mode Win95 eliminated opening Menu Crash, changing Area and quests seem to work for now. Will keep you posted if anything else happens.

Doesn't work in my case.
I have set the resolution to my native which is 1920x1080 and then I get Direct3D initialization error. If I undo the change, it gives me access violation error.log update error.
I've tried changing 0-1 on video toggle and windowed mode and it doesn't do anything. I still get same errors. Not even compatibility mode seems to help.

Since I can't get this game up and running, I'd either ask for a refund or just...I don't know. Why putting a game on steam if it won't work on newer machines?
Compatibility mode was set on Vista and XP, nothing changed.
