I also played Morrogh, going fully for summons & spell regeneration and in late game, I was able to create a pretty solid army
I never played Barroth
With Morrogh I made a hybrid Firepower/Magic build. I was doing decent damage with breath attacks, but with a good mana regen I was able to easily cast spells or summons too. Lots of fun to use both breath and magic with him.
With Barroth I went for a full Magic build, I also invested a few points into health, so that I wouldn't die instantly to stronger attacks. But the vast majority of points went into Mana regen. Eventually I was able to sling spells so damn frequently, that I never needed his breath attack. Investing into breath attacks is a waste of points if you play Barroth. His standard breath he starts off with is his most useful, because it can freeze enemies, and thats extremely useful. The damage on his breath never gets good anyway, so better just increase magic as much as possible ;)
Very fun to play too, as soon as you start spamming with huge spells, it feels like you are causing the apocalypse xD
With Annoth I went a full fire breath/Health build, supported by a few high level spells. Annoths last spell is the highest damage spell of the game (unless on of Morrogh later spells is stronger). I went a little bit overboard, because it was my first playthrough and also because Annoth is not very good at wiping out lairs (you need multiple fireballs to kill a lair while your autoaim is often not targeting them and the casting time of your high level spells is super long (5 secs) making you a target for the enemies' attacks, especially the homing ones. So i ended up facing Skarrborr at around level 75. A single fireball did 125 to 250 damage (depending on the charge). However when facing an enemy with around 5000 health and 70 damage per homing shot (which are really hard to dodge because of their high speed) I needed around 70 attempts to win once. The problem is that Annoth has neither good regeneration abilities nor enough damage to kill Skarrborr before he kills him. It definetly was a mistake to stack up health, because over a certain point where you survive the burst, it is a dead stat with out the regeneration to support it. Either you turn back after getting hit to the altar to heal or you continue but do not heal to full health before tanking the next hit. In the first case you did not make use of your remaining health, in the second one, you basically operate with less health on your second encounter. Probably taking points into regeneration or movespeed despite the high stat cost of 4 or 3 would have been the wiser move. Still Annoth feels pretty weak and I don't see how he should face skarrborr who outtanks and outsustains him without having an extremly high level (150+).
Then I played Barroth. Barroth has a harder start compared to Annoth. His mana regen and the first spell are much weaker compared to Annoth's natural weapons. Also the first few spells were completly unconvincing and thus I got my second spell on level 7 (the ice ball). All other points went straight into mana regen. Because the initial spell deals only 25 damage this became tedious until this point. With the second spell unlocked sometime on the second map my dps increased massively and it is enough to get to the fourth map, where I unlocked the lighning spell (around level 14, 15 I think) as my third spell. This became my bread and butter spell and since then I have not used any breath attack. I picked up qickstar , the big heal and lightning storm later (decent spells) as well as advanced invisibilitly, magic stones, extended blink and the last war sphere (all strong spells but in the end I did not use them very often and if I had to play Barroth again, I would not bother buying them). On level 34 you get access to the spell "super mirror" and this spell as standalone is game breaking. It allows you be invulnerable for 25 seconds, while also reflecting every enemy attack back. With most of my points going into mana regen, this spell recharges before the 25 seconds, which makes you permanantly invulnerable. This time I faced Skarrborr around level 55 with 700 mana regen. This resulted in permanently being invulnerable while also being able to cast lightning storm before the duration ran out. I faced Skarrborr twice, once on difficulty level 5 and once on difficulty level 10. On level 10, you need longer to kill him, but that is all. Because of the super mirror Barroth is OP.
Morrogh has a strong start, because of his high stats. The high regeneration, decent mana flow and high lung capacity allow good sustained damage, making the start even easier than Annoth's. And considering how difficult Annoth's run was, I value the high regeneration stat.
I use the basic attack very often, but -again considering how Annoth's run went- do not put any points into attack power (most stats land in regen and mana regen). So far Morrogh seems to be a decent dragon, but I will have to see how good he is against Skarrborr.
