If you can't turn while flying forward, then you have too many frames per second, RivaTuner Statistics Server can limit them easily, just remember that for some reason this program starts minimized by default (lower right part of the screen, arrow button "show hidden icons"). Higher game speed can solve this problem too.
Which dragon game is your favourite one?
Visual Novel: Angels with scaly wings
RPG: Divinity 2: Ego Draconis (has some tricky riddles in it on higher levels)
RPG: Divinity 2: "The current one". There is one dragon and you have / can play as a scalie
lizard creature - it has very tricky riddles in it that made me quit it.
Out of Steam games:
Visual Novel: Morenatsu - the Dragon is very human-ish but it´s still a good game.
Eragon Game for PC
"My" game I ordered for nearly 10 grand is on steam and is called "Furries and scalies"
There are dragons in it but it can´t compete with the AWSW game which is a big success
I have never played this as a kid, so you will not find any nostalgia bias here from me.
First of all, this game is definitely not going to appeal to everyone, I will say that right away, but when I first heard of this game I thought that it was going to be some bad and boring game. Once I started playing it, I realized how wrong I was, I love it.
Now to really enjoy this game you have to like the gameplay loop of this game. The gameplay loop here consists of mostly killing monsters, defending towns and destroying enemy buildings. There are a few missions that change the gameplay a bit where you control the dragon or another character and you have to destroy specific targets or defend specific targets. But around 95 % of the game you play as your chosen dragon. So you are worried that the game might get too boring for you? I mean the game definitely gets more interesting the farther you are, you get access to stronger dragon abilities and spells, enemies become far more challenging. I have heard people say that the game becomes too difficult, but I really disagree. I have completed the game at least twice on the default difficulty setting (difficulty 5) without any major problems. And if the game does become too hard, you can always change the difficulty ANYTIME. I will get into some tips later, how to deal with more difficult enemies in this game.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You asked if you will get to see more content, well that really depends on what exactly you mean by that. The game's content consists mostly of gameplay. The story is nothing super amazing and is explained through dialogue with the guy on the carpet and some other characters too. There is also a cool backstory for this game, unfortunately it is NOT included in the steam version. You can see the original russian video for the backstory which is 4 minutes long somewhere here on the community hub, somebody posted it with english subtitles. So to enjoy the content of this game you need to enjoy the gameplay, as that is the largest part of this game. For me, the gameplay is a lot of fun. I just really enjoy playing as a dragon and toasting enemies, summoning mighty lightning storms, or literally raising mountains from the ground with mighty dragon magic ;)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for the gamespeed settings that were mentioned by rvn515: You can change them from 0% to 200% by simply moving the slider with your mouse in the bottom right corner. I personally always play on 120 % speed and I recommend that, since it is not too fast, but also doesn't feel as slow as 100% does. Perfect balance ;)
Keep in mind that if you make the speed too fast, the game might become more difficult since you have less time to react to enemy attacks.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now for some gameplay tips:
If you need explanations on the HUD, press the H button while in-game.
I personally prefer the controls with the mouse. I left click a spot in the world to fly there and right click enemies or other targets to shoot them with spells or breath attacks. The only keys on the keyboard that I use are Q for flying higher, A for flying lower and TAB to quickly cast healing spells on myself. All the rest I just do with the mouse, much more comfortable for me. In the bottom right there is also a camera button. There are three camera modes, you can play around with them to see which one is best for you.
So the most important thing in this game is to dodge attacks. No matter how tanky you make your dragon, there will be enemies in the game who will do a lot of damage if you don't dodge shots. The most effective way of dodging shots is to fly up and down with the Q/A buttons, since you can keep attacking while doing that. There are some shots in the game that follow you and are very difficult to dodge and require outmaneouvering them. Enemies that shoot homing attacks at you should be your priority targets, you have to incapacitate or kill them quickly.
You mentioned the enemy that can slow you down with a special attack. That enemy is very annoying, however even if your dragon is slowed down, you can still fly up and down with the Q/A buttons at normal speed. Use that to your advantage to dodge enemy fire.
Certain enemies will auto hit you with special attacks if you get too close to them. They can freeze you or set you on fire. when fighting these enemies, fly high above them and attack from a distance.
All 3 dragons have some way to incapacitate enemies, usually with spells. Those can be blindness effects, freeze effects or mind altering effects (fear, mind control etc.)
Use these effects to disable very dangerous enemies so you don't have to fight all of the enemies at once.
When you level up, spending the large majority of points on Stat upgrades is much more useful than to buy all spells. Some spells are very weak and not worth buying. You also have a limited amount of spells you can equip, so buying too many spells is not worth it, except for the blue dragon Barroth perhaps, but he also needs most points in stats.
Keep in mind that the pillar of earth magic (in the center of a town) heals you when you go near it.
ALSO keep in mind that you can hold the ALT button and click on one or more equipped spells to automatically select them whenever they are recharged! That is very useful, especially for Barroth.
Never let your dragon be HUNGRY!!! If your dragon is hungry he is weaker and deals less damage. Press E and right-click on a small animal or small enemy (or even on a human if you want to hehe) to grab them. Press E again to eat. Bon appetit ;D
This is quite obvious, but remember that you can save before doing a level up to test a new spell and to see if you like it or not. That allows you to easily load the save and go back to before you spent your points.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now let's talk in detail about the 3 dragons you can choose.
ALSO please tell me which dragon you actually have chosen so I can help you better! ;D
Annoth the Firebreather: He is the red dragon and focuses on fire breath attacks. His magic is not so strong, especially since his mana regeneration is very very slow. Your best bet with this dragon is to invest into Breath Damage and Health, but also into Lung capacity. You can invest into other stats too if you want, but these 3 are his most important ones. Fly speed is also useful to help you dodge better. Annoth will also unlock a homing fire breath attack if you invest enough stat points into breath damage.
Barroth the Magician: He is the blue dragon and focuses on magic! His magic is his main source of damage because his breath attacks are very weak. His spells also allow him to heal himself or cast defense spells. Many of his spells are able to FREEZE enemies, which is very useful since a frozen enemy cant do ANYTHING for some time.
Keep in mind that Barroth starts with an ice-wind breath attack that does almost no damage BUT it can FREEZE enemies, making it extremely useful! Barroths main stat is Mana inflow (mana regeneration). You want to invest the largest majority of points in that. Also invest points in Health and maybe some into Fly speed if you want to. Barroth also has a very nice arsenal of different spells, choose spells that allow you to do different things. Mostly damage, some defense and heal and some Freeze effects.
Morrogh the Necromancer: He is the black dragon and focuses on summoning. He is basically a hybrid of Annoth and Barroth, because both his breath attacks and magic are at medium strength. So you can choose to focus on breath attacks or on magic or on both, you cant really go wrong with Morrogh ;)
His strongest spells are powerful earth magic and summoning spells. Morrogh needs his summons to deal with some enemy types effectively. Morrogh has the strongest health regeneration in the game, so you can level it easily and you will heal much quicker than the other two dragons.

This game is old (from 2004) so there are a few bugs on new systems. Most are fixed, but you might have noticed that there is no music in-game? I had that bug too but it is fixed easily.
Let me know if you want in-game music and I will guide you how to fix it. Should you notice any other bugs just tell me, maybe I know how to fix them, maybe not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So yeah. The game takes some getting used to and the things I have written here seem like a lot to learn, but I really just learned all of that easily while playing the game.
I personally think that "I of the dragon" is the best game that allows you to play as a dragon.
It obviously has its own flaws, it is not a perfect game, but no other game I have played allows you to have this experience of playing as a dragon who casts these awesome spells and just obliterates everything below!
Should you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Sorry for the wall of text ;D
GT:TGG is certainly not bad, but of course all these things are subjective. It is very heavily focused on story and choice instead of focusing on pure gameplay, which is appealing to some but not to all. I personally am not too much of a fan of these kind of visual novel games, but GT:TGG seems to be one of the better ones. From my perspective it is not as good as "I of the dragon".
The problem is that I´m "old" with all the games. I´ve played the mass effect series, play WoW since 12+ years and played some SWTOR (and some other MMORPGs I even lost the overwiew how many it were).
Most of these games contain grind. WoW is a good example with flying. For ... let´s say "reasons" your mount forgets that it has wings with every expansion (so you have a dragon that has wings but doesn´t use it) and to get this ability back you usually grind... days... we´re talking about days of repeitive "do the same quest over and over, defeat 100s of ennemies..."
I´m just tired of that... this is like work just that you aren´t really paid and the way how intense it is in this game just triggered me in a bad way. Except that one ennemy who spawns in the "start zone" I´ve not had any problems with the others... if I had to re try then it usually was because I was impatient on the ennemies.
Stuff you´ve mentioned (thanks for the beginner tips) I found out. I leveled the stats more than the spells (altough after many stats I bought one spell) I figured out the low / high still works if dragon is "slowed" with the spell ... I´ve played with the game.
Unfortunately I deleted it already. It just made me so mad in this map where were so many ennemies and all I just couldn´t stand it anymore... Also I was not in good mood when I did this.
I´m happy that you like the game and if I would have a whole... whole lot of time for this game maybe I´d play it longer, but I have the problem that "some" gamers these days have... not much time for gaming, and when I play a game I want to get out the most of the game... doing repetitive grind (defeat ennemies) over and over and over aggain just to see this carpet guy isn´t really what I could call content.
Sure I know it´s always a budget thing, but they just could´ve done more. Maybe save the money for the voice actor and make interactive choices, dragon can talk or stuff like that.
I´ve found a new game that lets you "be" a dragon... it´s in visual novel style and it´s so hard that it gets to a frustrating level (like as if the game was intended to be played with meta knowledge...) still I rather played this because there was and is lots of lore to discover... you can interact with objects / creatures and see the outcome. I think it´s called something with great green or so don´t know...
Has lots of positive reviews you can try it but it´s super difficult.
Aggain, I thank you for your long review. I´m even thinking about installing it back aggain... play it aggain... because you put so much efford into your reply.
Heya,
Yes, that is something I have heard a few times already. The gameplay of I of the dragon simply will not appeal to everyone. I think you have to be the type who enjoys action packed gameplay, even if it gets repetitive.
For me personally, I do not mind repetition as long as what is repeated is engaging in some way. For this game, it is the pure action and also difficulty for some levels. I also find it very satisfying each time you manage to destroy one of those annoying enemies who have been taunting you all this time with their slowness attacks or their dodging abilities.
What I also enjoy is the way the dragons are treated in this game (and the backstory). They are mostly non-stereotypical, in that they don't sit on a hoard of gold all day. Instead they are wise and proud and on some levels seemingly incomprehensible for the humans in this game. They are also very powerful, able to use mighty magic, and you can really feel this whenever you cast some of the higher level spells, which just obliterate stuff below you.
The reason as to why the dragon doesn't talk and there isn't much voice acting could be many.
The original developer was an indie-studio from Russia and they have made only 2 games as far as I know. This game originally released in 2004 and has not really been changed since then.
As you mentioned, maybe they just didn't have the budget to include a lot of voice acting?
Or maybe they chose to make the dragon a "silent protagonist", which is done a lot in many video games as a means to make the protagonist more of a blank character for you to project yourself onto.
Maybe they chose to focus less on story and voice, but more on gameplay.
I do not know the exact reason why they did it. But I definitely can understand why a game with little amounts of story content might repel some players.
Now I am not going to try to coerce you into playing this game, it is your decision. But here are some tips you could try that might just maybe make the game more enjoyable for you.
There is no shame in lowering the difficulty. If you seek an experience of playing a dragon and just destroying everything easily, that is completely ok. Lowering the difficulty will make enemies weaker and easier to kill them.
I don't know which dragon you picked, but you could maybe try another one. Each of them plays differently and maybe you will like another one much better.
Definitely play the game with music, every game is better with music ;)
You can either fix the game music in case it is buggy for you, or just open a playlist in the background.
Now, There is no guarantee that you will eventually enjoy this game, but for me it took some time to like it too. Today it is one of my absolute favorite games. The gameplay doesn't feel like grind to me, since I enjoy the destruction and I of the dragon is overall a truly unique game, especially since you play as a dragon who truly feels powerful in my opinion. So I encourage you to give the game a chance, it is worth it I think. But don't force yourself either, as this game is not everyones cake.
By the way, When I play the game, I also don't look forward to seeing the carpet guy again xD.
I look forward to the fact that slowly but surely my dragon becomes an unstoppable force of destruction xD
As for that other game, Golden treasure. I have tried it and it is not bad. But this visual novel kind of game really isn't my type of game. Too little gameplay for my taste. But of the visual novels I have played, it is one of the better ones. The story was nice, but also nothing super amazing, but thats just where video game genre preferences differ between people.
I played this game long ago, but for sure can say that sadly there not much dialogue or story, most of the time its battles and leveling... But still, in my opinion, this game has it's fun.
Also they did fix the music, right? I remember it working.
They spawn from the tepee-like tents. Find them and fry those and they can't come back when you kill them.
For the enemies themselves: lurk low o the ground on cliffs and look for them below. When you see one, move up and circle a bit to get them to attack. When they do, drop low quickly and their spell should slam into the side of the cliff. Then swoop down and used Fire Missile (or just eat them.. I enjoy them screaming while I haul them away to devour them). The cliffs are also useful for you in case you are hit: you can lounge around up there until the slow spell wears off.
It's a cheap tactic.. but then again.. so is "slow the guy down so everyone can hit him".
