If you came here from RuneScape, say what made you quit. Tell us what you want or don't want to see in Brighter Shores!
I'll start: I have a maxed out character on RuneScape, at least in stats and quests. For combat and other miscellaneous skilling upgrades, it takes literal billions of gold for a single item replacement. The only methods of making money are either incredibly slow or incredibly reliant on RNG, even when doing high-level content. It's simply not worth playing 70+ hours to buy a single item, which will make my boss kills a few seconds faster, to help farm the next piece of equipment or upgrade. Why bother?

Nothing skilling related is vaguely profitable by comparison, either. You could make more money 1-shotting normal enemies and picking up the loot to sell on the Grand Exchange than you can from doing even maxed out crafting or gathering of any kind. It's just a combat game with 20-whatever other skills to grind for quest requirements and passive unlocks now. It's just not what drew me to the game all those years ago, with all the unique skills to master, and the funny quest interactions.

Reading the professions in the Brighter Shores Steam Page gives me such hope and excitement, just like when I bought my first membership on RuneScape and saw all the new skills I could learn. I'm sure the combat will be fun for a while, but I just know I'll be spending so much time in town crafting in between and that just makes me so happy.

I'm probably one of the uncommon ones coming from RS3 rather than Old School, but for me it was mostly Necromancy oddly enough. As an Ironman, I felt like it drastically changed the PVM progression in a way that effectively made 90% of the PVM in-game completely obsolete and pointless.

All of the goals I had and things I was excited to pursue suddenly vanished once there was a golden path laid before me with the word "skip". People say "well you can just ignore it", but knowing there is a far more efficient path right there takes away from the experience and turns a slow, meaningful and enjoyable journey into what feels like a waste of time.

Started playing Runescape 3 about a year and a half ago and I still enjoy part of it, especially questing. Sometimes get bored and only do the daily stuff for a while.

That being said, I hate EoC. I just wanted to click on an enemy, fight it, and be done with it...something simple. We do have the action bar which can mostly get the job done in auto mode, but apparently it's highly recommended to play on manual on higher tier combat which is something I REALLY don't want to do.

The price increases and the fact that Jagex is being sold from one owner to another also annoyed me, I see nothing good for the future of the game. Most likely each owner/investment group/etc will just try to milk the game as much as possible before selling it to the next company and so on. I paid for Premier Membership for 1 year and the previous price was acceptable, but in all honesty I can't justify spending the new price of 90€ per year on it. I have a job by the way, so it's not a matter of money. I'd much rather pay for each chapter and be done with it.

I'll focus on a work of love which Brighter Shores seems to be. The Gower's seems to be particularly interested in delivering a good player experience. I'm so sorry things turned out the way they did between then and Jagex. Looking at the documentary really feels like they ultimately got screwed. The only good thing I think came out of it was the fact they they are well off and can develop this kind of game without needing investment from anyone else.

Eagerly waiting for Brighter Shores to come out!!!

EDIT#1: Not sure I will like selecting classes. I would really prefer having one character who could learn all skills to the max.

EDIT#2: I'm looking for a relaxing player experience, not intensive button clicking!

tbh that's why ironman was always a joke to me.

I posses the power of self control and don't need to shut off my access to trading to accomplish things on my own.

I quit OSRS after their mod(s) had falsely banned me over criticism of their DEI/Pride updates.

Since you read my profile, you must have read the part about Jagex clearing the offense off of the account completely? Thoughts? Shame that your stereotype of "people with my kind of profiles/comments" didn't pan out.

I really didn't care enough to read that far mate, I only took a quick glance.

Your entire profile is pretty cringe though, even down to the youtube videos you have in your comment section detailing people that offended you lmao.

Your entire profile is based around stuff that offended you in some way, so... get a life?

The Original Runescape 2 Death Mechanic, and also no GE. GE makes the world feel like the modern stock market, which I can just play IRL on my computer if I want that experience. I would much rather have many smaller shops, for example, if some sort of GE is a must have. I think Albion Online is the best example of fun GE mechanics I can think of. That said, I really did love the old market mechanics, where you actually had to go to a trading world and BE A MERCHANT. It was a whole game of its own, that I really, really miss. It also brought an incredible feeling of life to the world. It was BUZZING with commerce. It felt like I was going to a real medieval market every day.

New Death Mechanic and Grand Exchange made me quit. Also changes to wilderness etc. I want the good and the bad. I want the game to feel like a real world. If you get tricked in game by someone removing their items in a trade and making you give away yours for free though luck. I never did this myself, but it did happen to me. In my opinion stuff like that is part of the game, because honestly I could have avoided it if I was more careful, and I learned a lesson from it. I don't want devs policing the world like omnibenevolent angels. I want a fantasy world that feels like a real world. A simulation. Most of us are adults by now... Why is the wanting of a simulated fantasy world where things are as realistic as possible but with an added fantasy element (dragons, magic etc.) so unpopular? I don't get it. To be a real hero you have to take the good with the bad. No good story was ever written where everything just went the protagonists way all of the time. No wonder people get bored and leave these games.

This is the first time I heard someone saying GE being one of the reason that made them quit. Before the GE, every time I wanted to sell or buy something, I had to hop to World 1, go to Varrock West Bank (Or just camp the general store for junks) and start the auto typer...It was frustrating.
I don't dislike the scene of players gathering around the hotspot spamming, trying to sell or buy something, but the GE is too convenient.

Runescape is Stale. They aren't progressing.

They think progress is over-dramatic story telling and introducing new skills where as in reality, progress would be admitting nearly most of what they've done since 2011 has been trash.

Runescape will never improve if they're too proud of what they've done since 2011.

Runescape needs the Elon Musk treatment.

Runescape was supposed to be a LIVING and BREATHING game, not a brand that imposing what it wants the customers to think and feel about them.... Just take the stupid "mental health" stuff whilst selling gambling to their playerbase. It's all brand management for Runescape these days whilst the game feels cruddy.

I enjoyed FSW in 2022 but that was last time I remember genuinely enjoying the game.

Well since 2010 investment companies started running the show

I honestly can't even think of anything that would save it at this point. Even if they did find a new form of progression, there's just nothing to progress TOWARDS. They add new bosses and elite dungeons every couple updates, but they just focus on making them harder and harder, or adding additional 'hard mode' and 'challenge mode' that only <1% of people could hope to consistently beat... and they base all the loot on those <1% of players, who don't even need it at this point.

Fights like Telos, Arch-Glacor and Zamorak literally have an infinitely scaling mode where people are routinely fighting them at 4,000% enrage where a single missed input in a several-minute long fight means instant death. I'm sure it's a blast for those <1% of players, but everyone else is stuck in the mud... and you can forget about drawing in new players, that's for damned sure.

I found out too late about the FSW and despite them saying it would become a recurring thing, they have yet to do it again... it's almost like they live for bad ideas and fire anyone who has a good one at this point.

The reason I left OSRS was a lot of things stacking on top of each other tbh.

I was stagnating since I feel like I'm not good enough for late game content and quests and had no one to really play the game with since all the people I know who played the game don't play it anymore. I was pretty much just skilling mindlessly near the end because I had nothing better to do.

The last straw was the change where they replaced male/female with body type a/b and preferred pronouns. The devs could have put them into the game as additional options beside male and female and I wouldn't have minded as much, but here we are.

And before anyone calls me transphobe and what not, nah, I just don't like and agree with body types and preferred pronouns as options for myself, but if another person do identify with that stuff, fair enough, just not for me.

I hope the game is a bit more casual when it comes to late game and that there is a bit more communication and interaction between players when it comes to making items and skilling since GE pretty much killed that interaction for the most part.
