Jagex has new owners so who knows what will happen to OSRS? I'll give gower bros a chance!
Alternatively, the game just slowly got weird updates over time, and construction ate all my gold.
I miss the days where people had fun doing random nonsense like flooding Varrock with Cabbages and shouting "Kah Bah Gee!"
Keeping 3 items on death comes less useful as youre trying to get all gear slots as good as possible. Even the safe bosses require a high cost in potions / spells / arrows that are lost on death. On top of that, the unstable economy meant holding onto expensive gear means risk gaining or losing gold as the price changes.
Reality for me was to never use very expensive gear which increased the difficulty but reduced the risk. I want to save up for an expensive weapon or armour and feel like i can keep it forever.
However, runescape has a problem with way too much half-finished content because jagex keeps changing direction every year. I'd like to see a game that's better planned out and with better commitment to a concept.
If I had to pick an issue with Runescape is in an odd place where I don't know if Jagex wants to add new content like skills or revamp old skills both cases come with bugs and this applies to RS3 and OSRS.
They should have just made it a full roguelite where we use all of our existing equipment and just push as far as we want... which now that I think about it is what Shattered Worlds... kind of is.
*The death of large scale wilderness clan pvp (100 vs 100 and above)
*The rise of MTX and how it made playing as a completionist impossible. Previously all you had was permanent content and 4 seasonal events. Now you had multiple "events" going on at all times requiring attention, insane grind, tons of RNG, high payments or you missed out forever.
*Everything else becoming heavily pay2win thanks to bonds and gambling wheels.
*Game focus shifting to high level pvm requiring highly coordinated teams to communicate on voice chat to succeed. New combat system requiring piano player skills to deal sufficient dps to kill anything stronger than a slayer monster. Nope, no thank you.
*Customer support banning me multiple times for idiotic reasons, this one time I was banned simply for being a member of a friends chat. They literally banned everyone there(including 2 pmods) because apparently if one person does something bad then everyone else clearly intends to do the same. No evidence needed. After the ban was removed, they didn't even bother to apologize. Then finally, they removed my player mod status with no explanation whatsoever after 6 years serving as one. I had to investigate it myself. It was around 'botany bay' release, I took a screenshot of a bot account botting in varroc and then later a screenshot of the same bot account being punished on the island and posted it to reddit as evidence that botany bay indeed works. So I reverse image searched that image and found out someone had re-posted it to one of the biggest botting websites at the time and claiming that the screenshot was theirs. I can only assume that the customer support monkey saw the image and thought that was me and punished me for it. Job well done. Worst customer support ever.
My only source is my memory of spinoff rumors for a couple years before dungeoneering released and the rumors died.
To put it simply, if the game wasn't balanced around needing very expensive gear to do content at your level, losing everything on death wouldn't be a problem.
While on the subject of unprofessionalism..
I remember there was a case of a member of staff was caught doing something along the lines of stealing gold from players accounts (being a jagex staff member with access to every account) and the police got involved and one player had an insane amount of gold (i think 1bil?) that was stolen, but given back as an exception. There are some articles about this.
It was around this time that someone went on my account and botted until it was temp banned for a month, then went back on after the ban lifted and botted until a perma ban. Not a single email was sent to me. Not only did this occur around the same time as the above incident, i last played 6 months before the first ban and only found out 6 months later i.e. i didnt touch the game for a whole year. My password was very secure, literally no chance of viruses, phishing, never logged in on public devices, etc - i didnt even have any friends who played to be a likely culprit somehow. It neither makes any sense that someone had access 6 months after i had zero involvement with the game. I knew straight away they must have been compromised on their end.
I had to go to their twitter support account to find out they were investigating false bans of compromised accounts by month, but were way past the month i was banned and deemed i was guilty of botting. Anyway i got unbanned but it was from that moment i knew the staff behind rs were dodgy and unprofessional.
Edit:
one time someone asked me to say sllamsr backwards and so i just said rsmalls (rsmalls being a rts website), then the person said i was reported. I just replied lol?, but it wasnt a lol at all, i was actually temp banned for a day for this..
