Brighter Shores

When do you think you will implement your combat changes plan.
Mainly its a thing thats kinda attracting me back into the game so knowing progress would be very kind. I don't even really care about a deadline just a % done or anything of the sort would be neat. Although with a lot of folks burning you about the combat i'm not sure that plans as up to snuff as one might think. I had my personal gripes about it but man "worst combat in 40 years" is quite a harsh thing to see opening up this steam page.

I really didn't like the randomization of it and the gear levels. Its one of the main things i hated about modern World of Warcraft. But with the change of switching foes that was proposed it would allow you to somewhat ignore it with good enough equipment. Its probably not the best thing to hear in that my main plan is to skip an entire portion of the game with it. But man i really don't like how its an ouroboros trap. I want to gain combat levels to make gathering items safer but really it makes a lot of areas even more dangerous.

Thinking, a very simple solution (may not be as simple as said) would be to attach all tier upgrades to a pure layer update. Everything turns into purple rats at the same time meaning you need to engage in better forms of combat in order to get to better items. Prompting a better game-play loop of making a layer safe before moving on to the next layer. Because well the more you think about it a lot of skills are unimportant if combat is ignored. Potions have no point, weapon smithing as well. And really why would you need to do cooking or carpentry to get money if money gives you almost nothing as it feeds right back into combat.

Really with how pissed off people are it may be best to implement a simple temporary solution before planing out a full revamp over time. The more i type this the more its kinda a bit obvious a core part of the game is rotten and bleeding. In that a lot of the other elements are hollow and are inherently given meaning through combat.

I find it to be really really funny that the post below this is complaining about content announcements.
I saw someone desperately trying to repel off a combat merge. honestly the game is early enough that you could probably piss those kinda people off and get away with it. Even if the probability of a death grudge is very high. Really how many hardcore players do you have if your chasing people off with core mechanics & design ideas being flawed to begin with?

Well, they were pushing small updates at least once a week for a bit, but it's been nearly two weeks with nothing so my guess is something bigger is coming down the pipeline.

I'd love to have a road map, but I don't think they're too bothered atm, lol. Maybe they're avoiding a road map to mitigate expectations and timelines. They're working on the game, and it'll get done when it's done. They appreciate our feedback, obviously, but they said they'd continue working on it even if there was only one person playing. So, while declining numbers isn't exactly a morale boost for them, it also isn't a death knell.

Honestly I don't get people's problem with combat. Yeah it's basic and too RNG-heavy, but even before the proposed rework there was clearly an intention to add special attacks to it (and probably more) so we were never working with a fully-realized mechanic to begin with. Additionally, I never played RS but I recently started watching Settled and omg... OSRS combat is so much worse than BS combat, lol. The boss encounters and minigames look interesting, but the level grind? Literally braindead mechanics. For magic and ranged you just find a spot where you can trap an npc that can't ranged attack and just attack them without any danger of getting hit, because the AI pathfinding is just that bad. For melee, prayer overhead and semi-afk at crabs for 30 hours. So yeah, I wouldn't have compared the two games anyway, but now that I know more I really don't understand the comparison... :laughing_yeti:

At this point the game needs much more. Not just combat or new pointless skills in another chapter. It needs real content. It drives me crazy that most skills are only used for making silver. I need an end game. Farm bosses or collecting something. Just just repeating skills to build money. When episode 5 comes it will probably be the same thing.

I mean, all we can say for now is "it's coming." We don't know when or in what form, but we will have dungeons, bosses, pvp, trading, etc. Everything we do right now seems pointless, but it's to prepare for the future features. Grinders be grinding, lol. If that's not enough to keep you going right now, that's fine. Come back when it's interesting for you :MHRISE_OK: Don't feel like you 'have' to play. That's just gonna make you resentful.

Its so funny to me that you do not understand that OSRS has a lot of players. Its not that its a bad game, Its you that don't understand.
This game is NOT anything but itself, its designed with mechanics that's new to me. Is it an attempt for immersive cross-play? The engine is top notch, the game looks and feels quite good, But some of the practical game mechanics is so counter intuitive, like complicated for no reason. This is a known issue with these devs they love to mess around with that, and us gamers

Noooo lol. I was not saying that OSRS is a bad game. I was saying combat skilling in OSRS looks worse than combat skilling in BS.

OSRS - and even RS3, if it wasn’t for all the MTX - seem like great games!

I will keep playing (for now) and complaining along the way. I do love the game and can see that it has a lot of potential.
When its ready! You can't expect such a major re-design of the game in 5 mins.

why not try reading Andrew's twitter, he's said half the team are working on it but as it's a big update it will take longer than QOL updates

I never skilled combat in RS, I skilled Slayer. To me the game was almost perfect (for its type and how I played it, DIY ie do it yourself) at the last few months before the combat updates
From skilling slayer i maxed 5 skills. This game lack most things for a DIY player as of now.
AS this is early access I put myself as if I am in their content team trying to convey my sense of the game, and what seems less exiting.

Edit: After I quit RS I started to game at Steam, and have almost only played early access games. thats 8 years rougly. That's almost 18 years total, you have your rights to have opinions, so do I. Keep give constructive feedback to the dev team, stop bitnegativityching and whine, its an early access and its only a few weeks old. This go to all of you monkfish complaining

What the frinking earth has X to do with this? They are early accessing on STEAM they blødy wells have to keep the players updated at STEAM. devs can and should reach out everywhere but the early access is by STEAM players. This is an mutual service, we players play and give feedback, they listen and update according to their own plans and our feedback. On Steam.

Edit: These ppl are coders, its easy to copy text automatically from any account anywhere, x included (web scrapers). to anywhere they need to update their players
I guess i will get silenced but I pray as many devs see this as possible. Regular players at regular games, no problem, but early access is here at Steam

Tbh kinda reads like a bit of cope near the end. Personally I don't really get the idea of pushing an incomplete system. Of course you have the down the river changes that would "flesh" out the system. But really you want to get things at least mostly right before you make 4-5 new areas with that system close to its core. Every new zone is more work for a full rework so honestly this is not the perfect time but a good time at the very least to refine things down to a good slurry. The original design intent does not work without integration from many branches of the many pillars planned out. So really nobody will see the vision later. There isn't much flow so most people won't see the vision in the present either. Whats seen needs to be refined to actually justify the idea.

They posted the announcement about a month ago. You have a strange perception on 5 minutes sir.

The main thing I am saying is that it won't do you any good. "Real content" you say? When the game itself isn't that engaging? A big boss or a few more islands of content don't make each sand caked coconut tree any better. Refinement of what's already there is what needs to be done. And well if that's what you mean then yes we probably agree.
