Maybe it's just super rough and they haven't implemented stats properly yet? But the game has been out for months now and this should be a priority to address...
Every MMO I know of from Runescape to Eve Online is heavily RNG based lol
It's the nature of the genre since RPGs were first created. I have a Macintosh Plus and a copy of Rogue from 1985 (it worked on several Macs/Apples back in the day so predates the Plus) and its combat system is hilariously very similar to Brighter Shores or Runescape
Select a ranged weapon first, switch to a melee weapon, take turns with the enemy until one dies, with RNG being a heavy factor
You either love it because you're old enough to remember other RPGs like this and it just needs a balance pass, or you're someone that doesn't remember the days before the internet and want a game with instant gratification.
The skill in Brighter Shore, is a monster has a weakness, well you get a weapon that goes against that right correct? Well guess what, depending on your lv, if you are too high then you will get a penalty. (Don't argue with me about penalty, it's literately on page before you strike the enemy down.) If you are to low, well guess what RNG don't want to the math for it and rather tell you to go fight something else till you get a weapon that has the dmg require to fight this individual. Notice how the game forces you to take the SKILL BASE ROUTE, when it times to actually use it, it goes to RNG base.
Meaning everything that you did right by the game, takes all of it throw it into a black whole, and then tell you base on RNG if you are able to kill it or not. If you die, the game will tell you recommendation of what you can do to get better ODDS on the RNG combat. Even though the recommendation are skill base. Higher level, skill base, potions, skill base, weapon gear lv, skill base, IT DON'T MATTER. because like I said even if you have the best gear, you are still going to hit zeros and will lose to the enemy.
To think some stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ here want to add a death penalty to that garbage. Sure, OK. Next time you go into a fight with all the best potions in the game and still lose because the outcome was predetermined, go ahead and drop all your gear and/or force yourself to log off for the next 5 minutes because that is what it's going to be like.
The only real agency you have once you have the misfortune of engaging in combat is if you choose to use Immunity or not, because unless you play like a mobile game advertisement protagonist and only use weapon types your opponent is immune to, your outcome was already decided for you. You don't even have the agency to choose which style or equipment and armor to use against the opponent because it's distributed at random, not that it matters because your gear hardly matters in the first place. I've got like thousands of Arborea potions just rotting in my potion bank because it's been like 2 months now and the drop tables have decided to only give me sub-50% cryo weapons with remotely usable stats.
exactly, it's rig on purpose. Any dataminer can confirm this BS.
