Andrew said in the Reddit AMA that noting of items will not be a thing.
When I invite my buddy three years from now and I have to tell him that he can never obtain three years worth of seasonal cosmetics, no matter how much time he sinks into the game? He's probably going to quit on the spot or at least not be as focused as he could be.
I know some people think stuff like this is an achievement or a nice little medal to show your dedication and commitment to the game...perhaps it is...but surely we can achieve something like that without severing someone else from seasonal stuff?
What reason is there to hold Christmas, Easter, Halloween or whatever other seasonal events hostage anyway?
I had really hoped they wouldn't do this this time around. I am gutted! Gutted I say!
New Owner will make them trade able
It really isn't quite as bad as you are making it out to be.
It might not be possible to get the '24 Xmas cosmetics after the event. But... there will be plenty of later cosmetics to collect in future events. Undoubtedly, several will be similar items, if not identical, but with "XMAS25" as the info instead.
It's fine.
We might get an alternate santa hat, like some lumpy thing with stars on or something, but never a "perfect" version of the classic hat. My prediction anyway - if they're discontinued, they're not going to want to take away players "achievements" or whatever by cloning them.
We're sure to get seasonal items every year. The previous ones should still be obtainable though, for those who missed them. There will still be a period of time where they don't have them, I guess - 11 months of a year until the time comes around to get them again, so people can show 'em off if they want, I guess.
Otherwise though I just don't agree with this kind of stuff on principle. Even for selfish reasons too - what if I break my arms and legs in a freak accident I'll one day laugh with my grandchildren about, and can't play the game throughout Easter or something? I miss some cosmetics and can never obtain them again, ever. Punished forever for having the audacity to be indisposed throughout April, how dare I.
I know that seems like an extreme example, but for people who actually care about exclusive stuff being "prestigious" or whatever? That'd be torture. Imagine missing out on Bunny Ears + Bunny Tail cosmetics because you couldn't play...suddenly your account "value" has plummeted! You missed a really good discontinued item! "Argh! The OCD! The 'tism! I can't go on!" Now it is you who will be flexed on! Aaaaarrrrgghhh the horror!!! If only you could earn them next year!
It just seems like good game design to not make exclusive stuff that pretty much stops being a celebration of whatever and just turns into a way to flex on others.
As I said before in other threads, there are plenty of other, better ways to reward players for their time and dedication to the game than making alleged fun and care free event content locked for all time.
I know they're a small dev team and couldn't hope to be able to pull it off, but it would be nice if they made seasonal events into very long standing questlines which only become active during the appropriate season. Imagine 10 years of Christmas quests, each of them taking some time to complete, and awarding you with a bunch of seasonal items when completed. A new player coming in 2034 would have to chew through 10 whole Christmas quests across December before they could access the 2034 event items, while also collecting the previous event items.
That's a suitable "punishment" for not being here in 2024, a whole bunch of work to do in order to catch up, without excluding anyone. At least then they'd actually be able to catch up, and not feel left out.
I know there are people around here who think they deserve to be left out because they weren't playing during X season, but that just seems unreasonable to me.
All I did was equip a helmet and then started skilling. Seems a Christmas hat comes every 10-30 minutes on average. A few inventories of items or whatever per each one.
Don't actually know if you need to equip a helmet before you unlock transmogs though, but that's what I did anyway.
I keep hearing yes and no on this... But if they are tradable after the event, it means that people down the line can charge you a feed for a specific hat if you do not own a specific 2024 christmas hat for w/e reason.
Remember that being too verbose usually works against you more often than not.
The irony is I don't like reading other peoples long posts either
so from my findings only CERTAIN activities will drop a hat, not all of them. So, now, with that said. what activity were you doing to get that hat? if you don't mind me asking.
EVERY activity will get you hats its just some seem quicker than others, probably due to the XP rate.
No helmet required to be worn? Good to know, lol. Thanks!
Besides it's pretty entitled to come into a game years after the fact and start demanding as a noob that you be handed the most iconic items in the game. Maybe instead this hypothetical person should ask themselves why they didn't do what Andrew asked of us all and "just give it a chance" then it literally wouldn't be an issue. Some people just can't take good advice.
Someone who would complain about not having been here is literally the same kind of person as the toxic people who are complaining about the event right now. They're just going to complain no matter what.
