Not so much with the combat right now, as it's structure is more like normal skilling, than organic combat (it's a bit closer to OSRS, but not even remotely close to UO).
On the other hand it's one of the most pleasant mmo starts i have every seen. In 50hrs i haven't ever seen even one bug.
Skilling wise and everything else pretty close.
so very similar imho
I mean the only thing that makes OSRS progression meaningful is bosses and raids otherwise is pretty 1:1 Brighter shores does need meaningful progression but that will come.
Also they only really started making content for it like two years to last year.
It's been a decade in the making because of the engine it's all made in house.
So the working on it for a decade comment is kinda silly content wise it's been way less than a decade.
Andrew was working on the Graphics engine until late 2021 and it was only in a playable state in 2022 a state with no content.
This game isn't "for the money", it's a passion project.
i suggest you play the first two episodes, do the spider nest quest, if you don't like it then come back in 6 months to see if the game changes. right now i wouldn't say it's worth subbing unless you want to reserve a username.
100%
https://x.com/AndrewCGower/status/1599519719869927426 it's only been a years worth of content also and a lot of 2023 was making systems actually function and testing servers with fake players.
Internal alpha only started in June this year with ep 1 and 2 being made in march this year.
Not sure why people get the idea it's been at a playable state with content being added for more than a year lol so much of it was spent on the engine which by the way is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ technical marvel with how seemless interactions are.
The IDE setup for developing the game also is REALLY clean.
Most people probably just hear that somewhere, and they don't care/aren't interested enough to look it up more. To be fair the game is not really for everybody. How many people actually played runescape more than 20 years ago? And especially that part of a game (lets call it an extended demo) is free, a lot of people will just hop in to check it out and realize it's really just not for them. Nothing wrong with that. Steam forums have always been very toxic, and honestly it's not that bad here :)
still, it is early access and definitely has the potential to become something in the future
Also above everything keep in mind there are only 6 people working on the whole came (excluding music, a few more ppl are for music) but the game itself has only 6 people working on.
It has the early access title because it is not release ready
Andrew stated in a post he isnt a fan of EA but people asked for it and he wanted to show what they achieved so far and the product so far is really nice, just not polished.
Its the same as for everyone, early access games arent for many people, ALSO a game HUGE like this is, give it much more time man, check back in a year again? See what changed, if u dont like it, give it another 2 years? Games take time after all
Personally, I find Brighter Shores inspiring and often play it for the first half of my free time before returning to OSRS.
