Brighter Shores

Brighter Shores

The game is in it's first week of early access
Why not try reviewing it from that lens instead of comparing it to a game that's had 20 years of updates after 1.0

If you're not enjoying the game in it's current beta state, just wait until 1.0?

The foundation is solid and polished as hell. It just needs to be filled out with more depth and content. If you've been gaming for awhile and have seen a lot of hyped game launches, you know the foundation is the most important part. Games with weak foundations never get fixed no matter how many updates. Games that have a strong core are easy to add on content.

The tile based combat system has so much potential for something great. Reminds me of a tabletop game. Once they add active ability attacks, hopefully at some point we get group combat instead of 1v1ing everything. There's just so much potential here. And with Andrew Gower leading the company all it will take is time. It's inevitable the game will turn out in a good state.

Exactly this. I can live with a bad UI or other things that can be fixed. But this is designed poorly and I don't see a way for them to fix it, because like Maktlan said: Core game design is bad.

8 years of development. It deserves all the criticism its getting.

Steam labels the reviews as "early access" for a reason

So no people who left a negative review about the early access do not need to wait until 1.0, they are reviewing the game in it's current state, hence the tag "Early access review" on their reviews...

Basically no one is complaining about a lack of content, though. The very thing people are complaining about IS the foundation.

The foundation that's built around having multiple, identical, skills that force you to level the exact same thing multiple times. You got 500 foraging? Cool! Welcome to Hopeforest, over here we have gathering, so you can't actually pick that flower up because your gathering skill is 0. Oh no be careful, that deer is attacking you! And magically, none of the gear you're wearing works anymore, because.. you're in a forest I guess?

What was that about games with weak foundations again?

yeah its a bad start for a game that is clearly not going to get much better because andrew already wasted years working on what is an uninspired remake of runescape.

urgh nothing new its over
