Right? Andrew Gower put his name on the game, so that kinda means he's not some big AAA corporation that ignores everything and insults their consumer base on Twitter. He's surely capable of listening to feedback...and applying it. Right?
The thing is if they wanted to achieve that then they probably could have gone with a totally different style, I.E full 3D with proper movement instead of being grid based. I don't find this game at all unpleasant to play, I actually enjoy it, but I feel like the UI and the isometric viewpoint is far more RuneScape than anything else already.
RuneScape doesn't own things like woodcutting, or levelling up skills over time and progressing to higher tiers as you level it up, etc etc. That's like a universal thing. An open world with skill requirements to interact with the world, with skills required to also traverse the world, with storage banks and so on and so forth?
Kinda a universal thing right?
Like, this game has Skillcapes. I've always considered that a RuneScape thing (man, CapeScape practically ruined the game lol) but this game has them too. So they're kinda doing a poor job if they're trying to not be like RuneScape, lol.
From what I saw, Jagex panicked and pushed forward some dumb League thing to land around the same time Brighter Shores did, and suddenly I started noticing a load of back to back OSRS adverts on my phone and SmartTV lol, on the run up to Brighter Shores releasing. I think they were panicking pretty hard.
I say just embrace it. Screw it. Andrew will always be the OG no matter what he does. There are some features and mechanics that are just so timeless and good that avoiding them because of any similarity would be more harm than good, I think.
That gower guy that then wanted to maintain a voice in said company and then got nullified, rediculed and eventually was made obsolete?
For me in its current state its a big no-no, maybe when andrew gower understands what made runescape so good he can try to reclaim his legacy... but not like this.
Andrew in my opinion competely missed on the progression-sentiment.
Well, RuneScape wasn't built in a day. I never played Classic, but I remember hearing things about it, like not being able to heal in combat and all weapons hitting at the same speed which made like what, Dragon Battleaxes or Rune 2H Swords the most powerful weapons in the game, I think?
Eventually that got changed and ironed out, likely due to feedback and stuff.
The same can happen here. Surely?
I'm hopeful, and not trying to defend anyone or convince people to stick around, I'm just kinda hopeful that things will change due to feedback. Especially since I don't think I could keep playing if it doesn't change in a way that makes sense.
If runescape was saying to itself 20 years ago 'were too ♥♥♥♥ of a game to ask for a monthly subscription fee' and not actually being ♥♥♥♥
Opposed to this game
Being kinda ♥♥♥♥ but having no shame in asking you for your money right off the bat.
It kind of gives me a huge feeling andrew is being too cocky for his own good and makes me triple doubt if he has the same feeling/joy going into this as he had with runescape.
