theres no "unique" names, you get a # by your name with a number
It literally tells you that if you purchase premium, you DO get a unique name, without the # suffix, and they can and will be taken, hence, unique. It's all in the same window, you really can't miss it.
The system overall is flawed, they should have just made it so you pick your username after the tutorial to avoid people spamming accounts to get names quick if they had done usernames the tradtional way (like majority of other mmo) plus tutorial takes a good like 20 mins, so if they wanted to make 3 unique names they'd have had to spend like an hour lol
The # usernames was just a way for them to sell premium on release day because they know ppl would want the rare names bcs Runescape
That being said, i also don't see how this is any more "flawed" than the "traditional" way.
So, traditionally you just get unique names, every name can only be used once, and here, if you buy premium, the names can only be used once, so... where exactly is the difference?
Other than the fact you paid, which hopefully no one does JUST to get a name. I would hope people pay to actually get the full content first and foremost.
I'd argue the # suffix is precisely so everyone can just get the name they want (albeit with the #) and not have to worry about coming up with one that isn't taken, or adding numbers and spaces and other things.
This way names literally can't be taken from you, other than the unique premium ones. I fail to see how this isn't a strictly better system.
For the record, i do agree you should be able to check availability on the same screen. Like, in the "purchase premium" window for the very last step, after entering all your stuff, there could be a box that lets you enter the name you want before you do the final click for buying, and it would tell you whether it was available.
Could possibly even make it so when someone enters a name in said box, assuming it was available, it would get reserved for like 10 seconds or something, just as a small safety measure.
