Surge Gamepad Pro controller only partly working with game.

I bought this game a few days ago but did not have a controller so I went out and purchased a Surge Gamepad Pro controller today as I found playing the game with the mouse to be a bit hard. The controller is working as far as I can walk around but any of the interactions with the other animals is not working correctly. I have it connected as a Steam Switch Pro controller. The other option was an XBOX controller but then the AB and XY where switched. So I connected it as a Steam Switch Pro controller. When I approach a character it shows A to interact (highlighted in green) but then it quickly switches to B (greyed out) but both A and B both seem to work for that, that's just to talk to someone. However if I pick an object up, such as the toolbox in the beginning, I can not give it to him. I then have to switch to the mouse to do it. Same thing when trying to put something into the trunk it says to press A but a throws the item on the ground so when the trunk opens I don't actually have the item. It's really confusing and frustrating. I don't know if it's my fault or if it's broken (a bug)?

Really hard to say whats happening without having that specific controller to hand.

Have you tried other games to see what happens with it?

Having it set as a switch pro controller would likely be the least useful as I dont think we currently support switch controllers (in terms of showing the right icons)

I will say I recently bought a cheap xbox compatible joypad off amazon and it worked fine ..
If it has any xbox or playstation compatability those would be ideal, as thats the icon set we currently support..
