Cheat Engine not working

First of all people please don't judge me. Everybody enjoys games in there own ways and I like to experiment with all of the items, techs etc. For that I wanted to increase my gold vulue with cheat engine, however it didn't work.
Is there any explanation from the dev, why can't I use cheat engine for this RPG? It worked fine for other RPGs to fool around even with increasing skill points, exp and so on.
