TUG
Suggestion: Make the tool crafting system more like Tinkers Construct (Moved from suggestions page) (Now with a Pic!)
(Edit: This Idea was originally in the suggestions page, but I moved it to general discussions hoping it would get more attention.)

In Minecraft there's a mod called tinkers construct, It basically allows you to make tools with interchangeable parts. (example: Pickaxe with an Iron Pick head, wood bindings, and a paper handle) My suggestion is that you make crafting tools (And other things that allow you do use alternate recipies.) like this system.

For instance, You could have a pick with a bronze head, vine bindings, and a bamboo handle. Or mabye a Shovel with a Seashell head, leather bindings, and Bronze shaft Etc. It wouldn't be too hard to add and it would allow great diversity in tools and other things. Also, each of these interchangeable parts would add it's own amount of durabilty and other effects to the tool (For instance, a bronze pick with a hardened wood handle would have more durability than a pick with a regular twig handle. Or mabye a pick with a copper head would be able to mine harder rocks, ores, and minerals than a pick with a rock head Etc.)

Now you're probably wondering how you would implement this system without having to create over 100 separate new items. (like "bamboo handled leather bound bronze headed pickaxe, or hardened wood handled vine bound Iron headed axe etc.) Well, I think I have the solution. In tinkers construct the visual items that you craft have NBT data that overlay certain textures to make the custom item you're crafting. (For instance, if you made a wooden handled cobalt bound iron pickaxe, the game would render the wood handle first, then iron pick head on top of it, and finally the cobalt binding on top of that.) My idea is that TUG would do the same thing, but in 3d. (For instance, for the pickaxe model, the game would render the object in three different 3d parts, the handle, the binding, and the head. The game would use interchangeable 3d models to create an almost unlimited variety of items. For example: If you used a regular twig for the handle when crafting the item, the game would render a twig handle in the "Handle" part of the of the model, and if you used a vine for the binding, it would render a vine binding model in the "binding" part of the model, and last if you used a copper head, it would render a copper pick head in the "head" part of the model. I know it sounds a little complicated, but I hope you guys get what I'm talking about.)

Here's a pic explaining it.

Anyway, that's my suggestion.
Hope you guys like the idea and I hope it gets into the game. ;)

Sounds awesome
tinkers construct is one of my favourite mods. I'd love to see that mod added to TUG.
INcuding new ores, with properties and buffs and bonuses, for the materials.

Another Mod I'd love to see is ex nihilo http://ex-nihilo-minecraft.wikia.com/wiki/Ex_Nihilo_%28Minecraft%29_Wiki

The sifting table for finding seeds, and tiny bits of ore/metal turning cobble into gravel into sand into dust to get more options. using a crook to get leaves to compost to get other materials. using a crucible and lava to make a cobblestone generator or even make obsidian... That simply is one of my favourite mods.
