Good point! The furnace does feel like a forced convention, as if there were a line of thinking that every other automation game goes raw -> smelt -> assemble, so we have to as well. But "smelting" makes less sense with the shapes abstraction here. The forge could thematically create any shape from the chunks.
)
you could just call it a compressor or a polypresser- as in it 'compresses polys' into cubes of a determinate size. Rather than a furnace that only makes 4 x 4 x4's an calls it a cube.
that is presuming a poly is 1 x 1 x 1
then as an upgrade you could make bigger compressed cubes in a mark 2 polypresser and so on.
If you are going to do this, it makes the poly fundamentally different from all other factory games, so I would also suggest that blue paint is made differently and that blue polys are an ore too - that can be crushed into paint mixture - so you could then own liquid and solid polys as your niche specific to this game. Liquid polys could just be 1x1x1 and collected into containers of a set dimension too. As an example, the blue paint looks like a 5 x 4 x 4 container, so you'd need 80 blue poly ore and some other bits to make the tank (from nude polys), but then you may as well have black polys too, leaving the white polys as the main solid matter. This would be interesting in that you have two potential branches to make a 2 x 2 x 2 black block. Either spray it with black poly paint, or make it from black poly ore. You could then recycle the container and throw it back into the loop. The rainbow of infinity and beyond. ill stop here...
