Sorry for the late reply, did you turn on ''Legacy Components" in Windows Features?
Open Windows Features and see "Legacy Components" then tick DirectPlay inside of it. This is needed to run the game otherwise you will have a blackscreen or just nothing happening.
Essentially its a ..mod / patch to the game allowing it to run on newer hardware.
It gets the job done for most people. You could still be screwed however.
Go to the Praetorian game's installation folder (browse local file option). Right click on the game's executable (.exe) file "Praetorians.exe" and click on properties. Click on compatibility tab. Select "windows 8" from Run this program in compatibility mode. Click ok. Create a shortcut of the executable (.exe) file in desktop and run the game from desktop shortcut. If you run the game from steam then the settings will be changed by steam and you'll need to change it back again.
