I have faith in Creative Assembly as I love Total War: Rome 2 and Total War: Warhammer looks amazing.
However, I can't help but wonder what Microsoft will do to address the PC-only players who never played the original. Will there be a cutscene recapping the original game's story, will MS just say "buy an Xbox One and stream it to your PC," or will they port it to Windows 10 and also have it be a pre-order incentive (it WILL PROBABLY be a pre-order incentive for the Xbox One version)?
Regardless, I am glad to see Microsoft showing PC gamers some love. Hopefully, Halo Wars 2 and other "Microsoft exclusives" sell well enough on Windows 10 that MS brings FPS Halo back to PC.
I also agree with Jenkinns523, I would gladly pre-order Halo Wars 2 or Halo Wars on PC just for nostalgia alone.
I really hope it's compatible and optimal on Windows 7, but considering I have a 360 and boot it up every so often just to play Halo Wars I may be willing to buy an Xbox One just for that.
This is a step in the right direction Microsoft, I hope CA do a great job.
Also add some kind of anti-rush option or defence, because I can't tell you the amount of times me and friends have tried to play online only to have it ruined by people rushing. Yes, I know it's the objective but where's the fun? I'd rather have a masssive battle where both sides loose their forces in an epic firefight but then manage to push each other back. Those battles are rare but legendary, my longest battle is about 1 hour 30 minutes... at 3 AM I think, ah good times.
One of Microsoft's big goals is to unite all their platforms (Xbox One, PC, phone, tablet, etc.) under one OS (Windows 10). I don't think we'll be seeing any new Microsoft games on Windows 7 and 8.1 (Halo Wars 2 is only coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs). Also, I don't think Steam will be getting any more Microsoft games as MS wants their Windows 10 Store to compete with Steam, Origin, Uplay, etc.

you better shut up, This one is developed by SEGA.
However, you still make a good point. It's possible Microsoft won't just suddenly stop releasing games on Steam. They do have a partnership with Valve VR after all.
Microsoft has been making more and more of an effort to release their first-party franchises on PC. The top-down shooters, Spartan Assault and Spartan Strike, were good starts. When I first saw Spartan Assault on Steam, I could tell Microsoft was testing the grounds to make sure there was a decent amount of people on PC interested in the Halo franchise. This was 100% confirmed for me once I saw Microsoft trying to unite PC and Xbox One with Windows 10.
Here we are now with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Halo Wars 2 (there are many other games but I'm focusing on first-party franchises here) coming to Windows 10 PCs. While the original Gears was already on PC, the Coalition, the new Gears team, is working on a great PC version with 4K resolution, DX12 support, and other great PC features. Halo Wars 2 is being developed by Creative Assembly, a popular, primarily PC team. I know it's too early to call it since all we have is a teaser trailer, but I'm pretty sure the PC version won't be "destroyed because of console version" (quoting someone from the Spartan Strike Halo Wars 2 discussion we both posted in).
As you can see, Microsoft is clearly getting more confident in releasing their first-party franchises again on PC. I'm sure that PC will see the FPS Halo games again if the games I mentioned before sell well. I'm placing my bets that the first FPS Halo game PC will see in the coming future will be the Master Chief Collection. Why? Microsoft will make Halo 5 the new console-selling Halo and the MCC will have already sold most of the copies it will ever sell on XB1.
