I think the reality is, it's easy to burn out on this type of game since it's so player driven. If you think about something like rust, or Day Z, being left alone to your own devices is still fun because you can scrounge/build/ fight npc-like enemies. In this game if there aren't enough players, you just do tasks in peace, but without much progression as most fates work by interacting with another guy.

Well dayz has the looting and zombies to distract us from not seeing anyone so will just need to find an alternative for this game to fill the void of an empty server. Dayz isn’t going to die anytime soon because it built a community that has fresh and old faces cycling through. So can this game. Just gotta give it some time and hope the devs reach out to the fan base.
