It depends, I personally prefer it. The upsides are that it's more in-depth with things like investing into your Economy, Infrastructure, Growth Rate, and Manpower, Buildings are easier to build en masse, but it's also weird compared to the second game. For example, diplomatic agreements like Non-Aggression Pacts, Alliances, Independence Guarantees, etc. aren't permanent and expire after a certain amount of in-game years, you can't do certain things anymore like granting free money/provinces to other civs, sending annex/vassalization ultimatums, and the combat is more like that of EU4, with different unit types and Generals able to be assigned to armies. The main thing I personally hate is you can't create custom vassals or choose a civ to create a vassal out of, you can only create vassals out of civs who have cores in your provinces. All in all, I'd say it's a massive upgrade over AoH2 even though I prefer a few aspects of 2 over this one.
This game is just Worth it. I have over 140h here and I love it more than i did the old version of the game. In both games I have over 100h.
i think 2 is better

It depends. It' still calculator we fell in love with, but now as RTS. I look forward to mods. There isn't still personal union and in my opinion too fast battles without this much of strategy other than encircling and going forward. In 2 battles were in 1 turn but every move had its cost in move points so encircling, fracturation of enemy units going forward and finishing them without supply was fun. I hope that mod that give long battles would happen and military cost would be greater to plan everything carefully.
The sequel is wayyy better. It's actually possible to build a economy. This is fluffed up with so much bullcrap it's barely playable. Not to mention the ai in this get a buff so that they can have double your army.
