How exactly do spies work ? What information is available after spying on a country? And where can I see it ?

I think that the spy mechanics only work if you have the "fog of war" turned on, then I noticed that you can see more or less deployed enemy units and in the information about the country you will see information about the enemy's Manpower and, for example, what technology it has, etc. In any case, you do not receive information if the spy will be caught. Then your relationship with the country you spied on simply deteriorates
