How do I colonize?

Im trying to put settlers into America so I can colonize it but they just wont set on land. I have the law and the research.

I'm also trying to figure out how to make them land. They wont leave the water. If I figure it out, I'll post here.

So the issue is they don't explain that on about half the maps much of the world you CANNOT colonize. There is a different shade bewtween the one you can and cannot colonize and there is not a way to tell without ordering your unit on the land and if they can't go there then you can't colonize it.

I mean in the case of trying to colonize overseas. Im playing as a European nation trying to colonize America but it wont let me.

Have you unlocked the Colonial Act?

I have found out.
You have to take your settler to the unsettled land and then click on the unit and then click on this covered wagon at the bottom left. Where it says “Settler 1 000”
That was it :)
