how to open game and answers
I'm in a hurry to answer all questions and help launch the game.

What happened?

- Antiviruses complain about the Java library used (lwjgl.dll - The lwjgl.dll file is a dynamic link library (DLL) that is part of the Lightweight Java Game Library (LWJGL), providing native access to high-performance graphics, audio, and input for Java-based games and applications.). The developer has nothing to do with it. There are open issues on the Github of the library: (https://github.com/libgdx/gdx-liftoff/issues/207, https://github.com/LWJGL/lwjgl3/issues/1018).

What did the developer do?

- Using a java executable file as a game process. Yes, now Java is required to launch the game.

How to open AoH?

- Try opening the .jar file. Requires Java (https://java.com/download/).

- Using the original .exe file with the lwjgl library (Right-click the game in your Library.
Go to Properties > Beta
Choose -> LWJGL3)

Cannot open the .jar file

- Try reinstalling Java by removing it via the Java Uninstall Tool

- Using aoh3.exe version 08.11 or earlier

- If the file opens in notepad, winrar or another program: Right-click on aoh3.jar -> Open with -> Java

- http://www.ageofcivilizationsgame.com/topic/250345-my-game-doesnt-start/ try this steps

- try open .jar in cmd "java -jar file path/aoh3.jar"

- try open history2020.exe

- If the above methods do not work, use LWJGL3 (antivirus deleted aoh3.exe ? add game folder to antivirus exclusion)

this is getting ridiculous, I won't play the game until a more permanent solution is found, as I don't want to download a third party thingy just to play.

None of the above workarounds launch the game for me or many others.
Refunded

Any Java application distributed in a non-enterprise environment is always advised to provide a native solution, on windows a executable.
Even if that means providing a JRE alongside the game and an executable automate the launch.

try through steam
time flies and my patience.... I for one will still wait until the developer makes a patch that completely fixes the game without the need for outside interference, the exe detects as a virus and java is unable to fire it up despite many attempts, the game should work without all this if it is to be on sale

This doesn't make any sense, I bought a game on Steam, to click play and play, not to take an IT course to run it, before it gave a virus message, it did, I right-clicked on the message, created an exception and played, now it doesn't, I have to download a plugin, and update Java, and pray that it works, go back to the previous update with the executable, at least it ran fine, but now the programmer simply decided to take away access from everyone who bought it, for, I don't know, testing.

From everything the guy mentioned above, just do this:

- Using the original .exe file with the lwjgl library (Right-click the game in your Library.
Go to Properties > Beta
Choose -> LWJGL3)

(This is done through Steam, go to the library, select the game in your library, right-click -> properties -> Betas and select the option)
