The game doesn't open

The game can now only be run as a aoh3.jar - Java file.

Use first option to run the game without the need to install Java when launching the game via Steam

Or:
In the game files:
Right-click on aoh3.jar -> Open with -> Java

You can use java from game files:
jre\bin\java.exe

Or if you don’t have Java installed, you can download it here:
https://www.java.com/en/download/
or:
https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

If doesn't help:
Uninstall Java with the Java Uninstall Tool and make sure all old versions are uninstalled. Reinstall latest version of Java. Game should run fine after that.

I'll do my best to make running the game simpler, but it might take some time.

Update the game to newest version, don't use the beta in the properties.

This is the reason why the .exe file is no longer available.
Until Windows Defender stops detecting it as a virus, I can't bring it back.

I have maximum security window defender and it never warned me about anything before that and mind you I have been playing since 20 minutes after its release and that was because I woke up 2 minutes after the release and my mom made me wait 5 minutes thats 7 minutes and then I was thinking if I should eat the waffle or not for the rest of the 15 minutes then for the last 5 minutes of 20 It was loading so windows defender saw nothing for me

1) Temporarily (while the files are downloading) add the Steam directory to the antivirus exclusion.
2) In the game properties select beta version lwjgl3
3) Upload the game to steam
4) Delete the files: “aoh3.jar” and “aoh3.exe” from the game directory.
5) Remove Steam directory from antivirus exclusion.
6) Make sure that “history2020.exe” in the catalog with the game does not contain a virus.
7) Run the game with “history2020.exe”.

Author of the game, please remove from the beta version of “aoh3.jar” and “aoh3.exe” they interfere with the loading of the game.

Ah right so you have to install the Beta first. Then you get history2020.exe installed. Then if you delete the other two files (aoh3.exe and aoh3.jar) this history2020.exe does work. And it doesnt make an antivirus warning either so far. All you have to do is manually create a shortcut to this exe file on your desktop.

Finally there is a decent solution, Jesus what a bloody palava.

So all the dev needs to do is use history.exe as the games main exe file and permanently remove the other two files to solve this whole thing.

I can confirm that mods also work with this exe.

Although this file looks smaller than aoh3.exe so what is missing?

By the way, this method (from the author) also works:
Update the game to newest version (not beta!).
When launching the game use the second option:
AoH3 - Play the Game

The author added JRE to the game directory.

What worked for me was to run it via the command line, so after installing java (an in my case joined the Beta) did the following:

1) Windows Key + CMD to start a command prompt
2) cd 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\'
3) cd 'Age of History 3'
