Being chased/hunted?

This game looks amazing and I'd really like to play it, but I have a HUGE phobia of being chased/hunted/lunged at. I started playing the game and saw there were stamina and health bars so I need to know before I keep playing: is being chased is a major element in the game?

Being chased, no not really, you can kill every monster and even if they see you and you don't kill them they stop following you if you leave the area they're in. Being lunged at, potentially, there's one or two monsters in dark spots that can give you a jump. Be careful in the bottom area of the children's hospital area and in the right side of the public school factory.

To safely fight, walk backwards while swinging your hammer at them.

No problem. Bare in mind that the game has a very oppressive atmosphere - you may feel like you're in danger, but you're usually not. There aren't very many enemies and what few enemies there are aren't hard to beat. Plus you can take a few hits even if you're caught off guard.

So the thing about Psychopomp is enemies are static, You will only bump into one by wandering into it, there are no jumpscares an enemies are very loud and will typically give you more than enough warning before they appear on your screen.
