Please Help!! Return to Mysterious Island has stopped.......Solved
At random points, whenever I use the inventory, the game will close with the error message: RTMI has stopped.......looking for a solution. Obviously no solution is found. I have intel hd graphics 4000, 4gb ram directx is up to date. All drives are up to date. Anyone else have this problem? Please help, even compatibility mode or verifying game files doesnt work.

Solved
I turned my pc screen resolution to the lowest setting and changed "fullscreen=1 to fullscreen=0" in the config.ini file. Then I made sure all .exe and steam .exe were NOT running in admin mode and checked off "run in 640 X 480 screen res" under compatibility mode for the rtmi folder. I also start it from the rtmi folder but that may not matter. Thanks everyone and hope this solution will help you too.

I'm still trying to figure this out. It says my computer is compatible and i have found that other people on different game sight have had similar problems which makes me think its the game and not steam or just steam's version. I would really like to play this. I can get so far and then when trying to right click into inventory it just shuts off, sometimes with an error message and sometimes not. I can continue to play providing I saved the game right before it crashed but that is tedious and honestly, I payed for it, it should work. Any ideas are welcome, even if you had a similar problem with a different game. I am up to try anything.

Having the same problem on a 64 bit 8 core rig. What a pile of ♥♥♥♥. Jules Verne is rolling in his grave and Captain Nemo doesnt approve of the imperialist neglect.

LOL I cannot figure this out. I have been doing EVERYTHING I can possibly think of to fix this. I just went to GOG.com and purchased Syberia and that works perfectly so I don't see how it can be my computer. I think I might start buying whatever games I can from them because they have a money back guarantee and a downloader that "they say" fixes any problems so that it will work on your computer. Plus they will help you fix the game if it doesn't. I even emailed meridian4 and it took them like a week to reply and all they had to say was "Can you be sure you have DirectX 9 installed?" Seriously? That is the worst customer service I have ever heard of. They didn't even apologize for the trouble I am having with THEIR game! Anyway, I am determined to make this work. I am doing a few other things right now, and reinstalling the game so I will repost with my results. Sorry for ranting but this really is ridiculous.

Having the same problem. Sometimes I can get it to start on my windows 7 install, but the animations runs way too fast. I tried installing through steam in windows XP to rule out the opperating system, but it wont start at all in windows xp 32-bit. I heard this game originally used starforce drm for retail versions, could it still require that to launch the game properly.

I really don't know, but anything is possible. But you think that meridian support would have thought to mention that if it was a possibility....

Have you tried an app that checks ALL your drivers such as Driver Detective to make sure the MB has proper drivers? Sometimes its a HDD driver or an Audio driver.

Yes I did. actually concerning graphics driver, intel said there was a newer version available but when i installed it said it wasn't compatible with my pc or something like that.

Way too much hassle not buying even at sale price.

"I got to thinking about how the intro screen flashes a bit on startup and thought it must be a display issue, so I changed my screen resolution to the lowest setting and then went into the game files - compatibility and checked "run in 640 X 480 screen resolution". Then I went in to config.ini (C:/Programfiles/steam/steamapps/commond/mysteriousisland/config.txt) and changed it to windowed mode (Fullscreen = 0) and started the game normally".

I found this solution in another forum.I put (Fullscreen = 2) and work in a full screen. I speak spanish sorry for my english....ajajjajaja
