I swear if fishing gets added while also ending up as a food buff and easy way to get money... ILL LOSE IT
Also fishing is a nice side activity to add to keep completionists busy while the rest of the game is being made, and it always can be integrated later in a more important mechanic.
I think you're severely underestimating how many people enjoy fishing as nothing more than a thing to do in a game. I agree that it would be way better if it provided a tangible benefit for the player, but if webfishing proved anything it's that people will happily play fishing minigames for the sake of it. In the end, if it doesn't negatively impact the performance of the game in general then there's no real reason to worry about it.
Additionally;
Heck, if Kiseff were to straight up copy the fishing mini-game from Ocarina of Tims, then I would be thrilled. That was one seriously addictive fishing mini-game which I spent hours playing even after I had unlocked all of the rewards and broken all of the records simply because it was fun. It's really sad that none of the future Zelda games had the same style of fishing mini-game.
Beyond that, I'm down for even a basic Animal Crossing style fishing mini-game, if only because it might take some business away from WEBFISHING.
It could be okay if there are some nice items you can get from it, like making meals that give long term stat buffs for combat. Because that would give it at least a tenuous link to the core gameplay loop, instead of being entirely parasitic.
But, then it also runs the risk of becoming annoying. Because if you don't like the fishing minigame, you have two choices: Either don't do it, and miss out on those buffs, making the part of the game you do like less fun. Or, you waste time playing the minigame you don't enjoy, so you can have those buffs for the part of the game you do enjoy. Neither one is a good situation to be in.
This is why I would rather get all items from within the core gameplay loop, than outside of it. That keeps the game focused, which is a good thing.
If fishing is purely an optional thing, that simply exists to enhance the social side of the game, then maybe it would be okay. But if that's the case, it will most likely end up being ignored by anyone that only plays solo. So then Kiseff has to ask himself: is it still worth the extra development resources spent on it if not all players are going to actually engage with it?
Boooooooring
How is that boring? Surely you enjoy fighting monsters and exploring dungeons? Or, are you saying Atlyss is boring? If so, why are you playing it, then?
You know what I find boring? Fishing mini games. Especially when they're in an action game. Hence why I would much rather get loot from the fun thing I AM here for, than a boring thing I'm NOT here for.
I think people need to realize that this ISN'T an MMO. Not that I'm against fishing in the game, I just keep seeing people repeatedly miscategorizing the game. It's MMO INSPIRED, but it's just an RPG with Online multiplayer. There's a big difference. Diablo vs. WoW, Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles Vs. FFXIV, etc. I don't think a whole bunch of, direct from MMO, superfluous systems are needed.(*cough* player housing *cough*) Fishing however is a very common minigame in a whole buncha genres in games, so it's not that big a deal to me.
