ATLYSS

Some thoughts on performance
To start, the game is amazing, and I've nearly maxed out all three classes. It's absolutely playable and enjoyable. However, I feel the game suffers from issues with performance.

Given the retro style graphics that should be less demanding, I'm left wondering why I get fps as low as 40 while rendering at 1080p during intense fights. I have a Ryzen 9 7940HS and an RTX 4060 with 16gb of RAM. I feel that should be more than enough to be buttery smooth with no issues.

I think this poses a larger problem as Atlyss could be huge in the low end gaming community; its graphical style should be perfect for low end rigs. If performance suffers even on the mid to higher end, this could take away from a larger community.

Lastly, I just want to ask for a native fullscreen - maybe there's just something I missed but I cannot find an option.

I don't mean to be negative at all - I absolutely love Atlyss, and it's in a great state for being early access. Insane props to Kiseff. These are minor issues that will hopefully get better in time.

i have a prebought office pc with a 960 shoved in it and i can run the game at a smooth (99.999% of the time) 60 at high graphics. All i had to do was turn render distance to near.

I have no performance problems on my 1650 in singleplayer
In multiplayer however it can drop to 30 fps if there are a lot of people

Getting 140+ fps in singleplayer and 75 fps at worst in crowded multiplayer areas at 1440p.
Render is on far, texture quality on high and AA 4x.
This game poses practically no issues at a consistent 60fps on 10+ year old cpu and mobo with a 660TI.

It does sound like there's some software shenanigans, maybe hardware acceleration or other options integrated into the graphics card that isn't optimal for atlyss.

Draw calls and the entities from the game engine. Usually this shouldn't be an issue with the way the game seems to be set. Graphics shouldn't be an issue so it might be all CPU for the most part and . If you can open task manager and check performance (CPU GPU MEM %).
If you're CPU is hitting high % that will show the entities may be the issue for you but don't worry so much if GPU % is high. Unlike CPU utilization GPU at higher % just means you're actually using the GPU. Other issues can be related to drivers or simply how your system runs (Thermals and or drivers being botchy. After the task manager info we can try and make a guess. Laptop right?
Did you try Alt Enter to full screen?(Reverses too)
A search of your CPU tells me that it's a laptop processor. So if that's true, make sure the game is being run from your dedicated GPU and not from the integrated Radeon 780M. Depending on your operating system, you will find the setting over the display>graphics window, or through nvidia control panel. The options are usually named 'Performance' and 'Power saving'.

I have a laptop with a 13700K and a 4060, and the game runs with no issues and no fps dips.

the framerate also seems to drop if you have a high ping, so it might not be the rendering of the other players thats doing this but the server and your client transfering info to eachother

Good point. If the task doesn't seem to show anything bad going on with the usage you can look at which GPU it is using. If not its thermal or some software related thing.

Thanks for all the responses, turns out it was really the bitcrush shader. Strange that it had such an impact, not sure why. And thanks to NihilFox for the fullscreen fix.

I get the same issue but only if there are 4 people in the server or more. I can be alone in a dungeon and i have 30 fps at all times until the 4th player leaves.

Just wanted to throw it out there that I have been able to play the game just fine on my PC which has similar specs to yours, my ROG Ally Z1X, and also last night I played single player for about an hour on my laptop with a 5th gen i7 and Intel HD 5500 w/ 8GB of RAM. All of these systems run the game fine, the laptop struggled a bit in wide open areas, but with a few settings turned down and the resolution at 1600x900 the game never dipped below 30FPS.
