Cosmetic items can't be used in vanity?

I just got a noble shirt from gambling and it claims to be purely cosmetic, which is fine cause the shirt looks nice, but it can't be equipped into vanity? I have yet to find a single item that can be put into vanity which seems pretty stupid. If its a cosmetic item, why force me to wear it in equipment? Why even have very specific items be for vanity?? its vanity, you are meant to be able to equip whatever the hell you want since it only serves to make your character look like they're wearing something. Seems like a ridiculous oversight imo

You need illusion stones to assign anything in vanity slots. The mirror behind Angela explains this but could be easy to miss if you mashed through the text or just never spoke to it.

You must get illusion stones as described above. Go to the main hub and buy them from shopkeeper Sally. When you equip a vanity item, an illusion stone will be used, but the vanity item will remain in your inventory. You can place it on your bank and the vanity on your character will not disappear. This is done this way because you can use regular gear as vanity too (even class specific gear can be used on other classes), so long as your character has the required level for it.
